Switzerland’s iconic yellow buses are going electric in bulk. PostAuto has signed a framework agreement with Solaris for up to 115 electric buses — a mix of 12-metre and articulated 18-metre Urbino models — with an initial firm order of 33 vehicles and deliveries running to the end of 2027.
Why this deal is a signal
- Framework scale is the new normal: European operators have moved from pilot batches to multi-year frameworks — procurement catching up with technology confidence.
- Topography test: PostAuto runs some of Europe’s most demanding terrain. Batteries specified for Alpine routes and Swiss winters say more than any spec sheet.
- A European win: amid the Chinese surge in the EU bus market, a marquee framework going to Poland’s Solaris shows the home team still converts on quality and service.
The wider Swiss picture
Swiss operators pair electrification with hydro-heavy grid power, making the well-to-wheel case unusually clean. Expect depot charging investments to follow the vehicle order — as always, the infrastructure is the project, as our depot charging guide lays out.
