Largest truck manufacturers in the world: 2025 figures and what they count
Daimler Truck sold 422,510 trucks and buses in 2025, Sinotruk 415,276 trucks, TRATON 305,486 vehicles; Volvo and PACCAR delivered 202,911 and 144,200 trucks. What each counts.

For 2025, Daimler Truck reported 422,510 trucks and buses sold, Sinotruk 415,276 trucks sold, the TRATON GROUP 305,486 trucks, buses and vans sold, the Volvo Group 202,911 trucks delivered and PACCAR 144,200 trucks delivered, each in its own annual report or results release. The five totals count different things. Daimler Truck’s is the highest of the five numbers, but two of the totals include buses, one of those also includes vans, two count deliveries rather than sales, and the Volvo Group’s covers only its wholly-owned operations. Nor is the list complete: other groups, among them Tata Motors, Dongfeng, FAW Jiefang and Foton, are not covered here.
Status as at 27 October 2026. The totals are for each group’s 2025 financial year, from these documents, read on that date: Daimler Truck’s unit sales release of 16 January 2026 and its results release of 12 March 2026; the TRATON GROUP’s unit sales release of 20 January 2026 and its 2025 Annual Report; the Volvo Group’s Annual Report 2025; PACCAR’s results release of 27 January 2026, filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission; and the Annual Report 2025 of Sinotruk (Hong Kong) Limited, published on the Hong Kong stock exchange’s HKEXnews site.
The 2025 totals, in each group’s own terms
The table is ordered by the reported number. The five numbers measure different things, and the column beside each one says what.
| Group | Reported total | What the figure counts | Period | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Daimler Truck | 422,510 | Unit sales of trucks and buses at Group level, including eliminations due to transactions between segments; 2024: 460,409 | 2025 financial year | Unit sales release, 16 January 2026; results release, 12 March 2026 |
| Sinotruk (Hong Kong) Limited | 415,276 | Sales volume of complete trucks: HDTs, which the report defines as heavy and medium-heavy duty trucks, and light-duty trucks; the HDT export figure includes affiliated export; up 20.7% on 2024 | Year ended 31 December 2025 | Annual Report 2025 |
| TRATON GROUP | 305,486 | Unit sales of trucks, buses and MAN TGE vans; 2024: 334,215 | Fiscal year 2025 | 2025 Annual Report, key figures and five-year overview |
| Volvo Group | 202,911 | Trucks delivered from the Group’s wholly-owned operations; buses and the non-consolidated operations are reported separately; 2024: 219,377 | 1 January to 31 December 2025 | Annual Report 2025 |
| PACCAR | 144,200 | New truck deliveries, under the Kenworth, Peterbilt and DAF nameplates; 2024: 185,300 | Year ended 31 December 2025 | Results release, 27 January 2026 (Form 8-K, Exhibit 99.1) |
The words differ as well as the scope. Daimler Truck’s results release puts its figure as “Daimler Truck sold 422,510 trucks and buses worldwide in 2025”. The TRATON GROUP’s release of 20 January 2026 gave “around 305,500” on preliminary figures; its annual report gives 305,486. The Volvo Group’s report states that “a total of 202,911 trucks were delivered from the Group’s wholly-owned operations”; PACCAR’s release says it “delivered 144,200 vehicles worldwide” and gives the same number as the total of its table of new truck deliveries; Sinotruk’s report speaks of the “total sales volume of complete trucks”. Daimler Truck and TRATON also report incoming orders, a measure of its own: 425,458 units at Daimler Truck and 281,325 at TRATON in 2025. The brands of Daimler Truck, the TRATON GROUP, the Volvo Group and PACCAR, and where their trucks are built in Europe, are set out in who builds trucks in Europe.
What each total is made of
Each group splits its total its own way: Daimler Truck by segment, Sinotruk by truck class and between the Chinese Mainland and export, the TRATON GROUP by vehicle type and by brand, the Volvo Group by weight class, brand and region, and PACCAR by region.
| Group | Split as published | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Daimler Truck | By segment: Trucks North America 141,814; Mercedes-Benz Trucks 159,871; Trucks Asia 107,055; Daimler Buses 26,991. Group total 422,510, including eliminations due to transactions between segments | Unit sales release, 16 January 2026 |
| Sinotruk | HDTs 292,140, of which Chinese Mainland 138,772 (excluding affiliated HDT export) and export 153,368 (including affiliated export); LDTs 123,136 | Annual Report 2025 |
| TRATON GROUP | By type: trucks 239,783; buses 34,359; MAN TGE vans 31,344. By brand: Scania Vehicles & Services 94,073; MAN Truck & Bus 101,642; International Motors 63,732; Volkswagen Truck & Bus 46,171 | 2025 Annual Report |
| Volvo Group | By weight: heavy duty, over 16 tons, 173,193; medium duty, 7 to 16 tons, 11,549; light duty, under 7 tons, 18,169. By brand: Volvo 119,395; Renault Trucks 55,011; Mack 28,014; other brands 491. By region: Europe 105,664; North America 48,408; South America 23,991; Asia 15,877; Africa and Oceania 8,971 | Annual Report 2025 |
| PACCAR | United States and Canada 77,300; Europe 43,800; other 23,100 | Results release, 27 January 2026 |
Daimler Truck’s four segment figures add up to 435,731, more than the Group’s 422,510; the release’s footnote to the Group figure reads “Including eliminations due to transactions between segments.” The segments changed on 1 January 2025, when Daimler Truck integrated its business in China and India into the Mercedes-Benz Trucks segment; the 2024 comparison figures were restated on the new basis. The TRATON GROUP’s four brand figures add up to 305,618, which is 132 more than its total; the five-year overview shows no reconciliation between the two. TRATON describes its product portfolio as “trucks, buses, and light-duty commercial vehicles”, and the 31,344 MAN TGE vans are inside its total.
The weight classes are the groups’ own. The Volvo Group’s three are heavy duty over 16 tons, medium duty from 7 to 16 tons and light duty under 7 tons. Sinotruk’s annual report defines HDTs as “heavy duty truck(s) and medium-heavy duty truck(s)” and gives no weight limit for that class or for its light-duty trucks. Daimler Truck describes its offer as “light, medium and heavy-duty trucks, city and intercity buses, coaches and bus chassis”, and PACCAR describes its range as light-, medium- and heavy-duty trucks; Daimler Truck’s and PACCAR’s releases and TRATON’s key figures do not split the totals by weight. Sinotruk’s annual report presents trucks under the HOWO and SITRAK names; the SITRAK C9H tractor has a page of its own.
Electric vehicles inside the totals
Each group counts its electric vehicles in its own terms as well. Daimler Truck sold 6,726 battery-electric trucks and buses in 2025 (2024: 4,035). The TRATON GROUP’s January release gave 3,230 all-electric vehicles on preliminary figures (2024: 1,740), and its annual report a battery-electric share of unit sales of 1.2 per cent, excluding MAN TGE vans (2024: 0.5 per cent). The Volvo Group delivered 4,006 fully-electric trucks (2024: 3,717), deliveries that its report says were “driven by light-duty trucks”. Sinotruk’s report gives no unit figure; it states that the Group’s “new energy HDT sales surged 248.9% YoY, achieving a market share of 11.8%”. PACCAR’s results release gives no count of electric trucks delivered.
Whose trucks are counted
The groups draw the boundaries of their totals in different places.
The Volvo Group’s 202,911 are deliveries “from the Group’s wholly-owned operations”. Its annual report lists Eicher and Dongfeng Trucks among the brands of its truck business, and reports VE Commercial Vehicles (Eicher) and Dongfeng Commercial Vehicle Company (Dongfeng Trucks) separately, as non-consolidated operations. Buses are reported outside the 202,911: the Volvo Buses business area, with the Volvo and Prevost brands, delivered 6,005 units in 2025 (2024: 6,274).
Sinotruk’s figures are those of the Group, which the report defines as “the Company and its subsidiaries”. Its 153,368 exported HDTs include “joint venture exports”, while the 138,772 sold in the Chinese Mainland exclude affiliated HDT export. The report names China National Heavy Duty Truck Group Company Limited (CNHTC), a state-owned enterprise, as Sinotruk’s immediate holding company and Shandong Heavy Industry Group Co., Ltd. (SDHi) as its ultimate holding company. Its register of substantial shareholders at 31 December 2025 shows CNHTC holding approximately 51 per cent of the shares and MAN Finance and Holding S.A., held by TRATON SE through TRATON International S.A., approximately 25 per cent. The same report states that MAN Finance and Holding S.A. disposed of 57 million shares in January 2026 and 81 million in April 2026, and gives its holding as 20.00 per cent at 24 April 2026, the latest practicable date before the report was printed. The TRATON GROUP reports its unit sales by its four brands, Scania, MAN, International and Volkswagen Truck & Bus; Sinotruk is not among them. For Sinotruk and other makers from outside the EU, the approval, duty and parts questions of selling trucks in Europe are covered in new truck brands entering Europe.
Daimler Truck changes its basis for 2026
Daimler Truck’s results release of 12 March 2026 set out a change. Daimler Truck and Toyota Motor Corporation signed a definitive agreement to integrate Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation and Hino Motors into a new holding company, ARCHION Corporation, with its registered office in Tokyo; Daimler Truck and Toyota each intend to hold 25 per cent of it. The release gave 1 April 2026 as the target date for the closing, “subject to the necessary conditions for the closing of the transaction being in place in time”, and stated that the closing would involve the deconsolidation of Mitsubishi Fuso from the Daimler Truck Group. For that reason the Trucks Asia segment was to be reported in the reconciliation as of 1 January 2026, and the 2026 forecast refers to continuing operations: unit sales of 330,000 to 360,000, against 315,000 units for 2025 on the same basis. Daimler Truck’s 2025 Group total of 422,510 includes the Trucks Asia segment, which sold 107,055 units.
The markets the groups report against
The groups also state the size of some of the markets they sell in and their own positions there, each for markets of its own and in its own terms.
| Market | Size as stated | Position as stated | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| North America, heavy-duty trucks | Daimler Truck: 258,000 units, “the market of heavy-duty trucks in North America (Class 8)”. PACCAR: 233,000 units, “U.S. and Canada Class 8 truck industry retail sales” | Daimler Truck: “continued number one market position in North America (Class 8)”. PACCAR: Kenworth and Peterbilt, 30% of U.S. and Canada Class 8 retail sales | Daimler Truck results release, 12 March 2026; PACCAR results release, 27 January 2026 |
| Europe, heavy-duty trucks | Daimler Truck: 296,000 units in “the EU30 region”. PACCAR: 298,000 trucks, “European above 16-tonne truck industry registrations” | Daimler Truck: “regained market leadership in the EU30 region (medium- and heavy-duty segment)”; Mercedes-Benz Trucks: 35% of the EU30 segment of medium- and heavy-duty battery-electric trucks | Daimler Truck results release, 12 March 2026; PACCAR results release, 27 January 2026 |
| South America and Brazil, heavy trucks | PACCAR: 115,000 vehicles, “The South American above 16-tonne truck market” | Volvo Group: Volvo, “market leader in Brazil with a market share of 23.2% in heavy-duty trucks” | PACCAR results release, 27 January 2026; Volvo Group Annual Report 2025 |
| China, heavy and light trucks | Sinotruk, from statistics of the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM): industry sales volume of approximately 1,144,900 HDTs and 2,023,600 LDTs | Sinotruk: “the top position in China’s HDT industry for the fourth consecutive year” | Sinotruk Annual Report 2025 |
Sinotruk’s chairman’s statement adds that in 2025 it became “the first Chinese brand to rank first globally in HDT sales”; the statement does not say which figures for other makers that ranking rests on. PACCAR’s European market figure counts industry registrations; what a registration statistic counts, and what it leaves out, is explained in what a European truck registration figure counts.
Other groups
Iveco Group, Ford Otosan, Tata Motors, Ashok Leyland, Isuzu Motors, Hino Motors, Dongfeng, FAW Jiefang, Foton, Shaanxi Automobile Group (SHACMAN) and KAMAZ are not in the tables above; their 2025 figures are not covered here.
