The UD Trucks Quester is a heavy-duty truck range that UD Trucks lists beside the Quon on its global site. The specs page counts eight models: five rated by gross vehicle weight, with the applications cargo, mixer or tipper, and three tractors rated by gross combination weight. All eight use GH8E or GH11E diesel engines. This page is built from UD Trucks’ own Quester pages on udtrucks.com, in the site’s Global market view: the overview, specs, wide range, fuel efficiency, driver efficiency, safety, uptime and productivity pages, all read on 4 November 2026. None prints a date of its own; the titles of six of them carry “Quester 2026”.
Overview and range
The overview page heads the range “Built Strong. Runs Long. Works Hard.” and says the Quester covers long-haul and construction work as well as waste management and general cargo.

Every model row lists the emission levels Euro 3 and Euro 5. No document opened gives the launch year of the Quester or describes earlier generations. How wheel formulas are written is covered in axle configurations explained.
Applications
UD Trucks’ wide range page groups the Quester by four kinds of work and writes the wheel formulas with the suffixes T and R, for which it prints no key.
| Application | Wheel formulas | What the page lists |
|---|---|---|
| Long haul | 6×2T, 6×4T, 6×4R, 8×4R | Sleeper cab with a high roof and twin bunks; composite aerodynamic bumper with front underrun protection; fuel coaching system |
| Construction | 4×2T/R, 6×4T/R, 8×4R | Hub reduction available on the tandem axles with T-Ride rear suspension; steel off-road bumper with high ground clearance; rolling form frame |
| Waste management | 4×2R, 6×4R | Allison automatic transmission for stop-start work between collection points; easy superstructure installation |
| General cargo | 4×2T/R, 6×2T/R, 8×4, 6×4T/R | Aluminum wheels and tanks; larger aluminum fuel tanks |
These lists do not include the 8x2 that the specs page gives for the CQE. The overview page says the range comes in a wide variety of configurations and wheelbase options, without wheelbase values.
Cabs
The driver efficiency page describes the High Roof Cab, which UD Trucks calls the largest cab it has built: a walk-through cab with upper and lower bunks for shared long-distance work. The productivity page adds storage space and an instrument panel with everything within reach. Entry is by a three-step entrance. UD Trucks describes a four-spoke multi-function steering wheel and a new instrument cluster that shows drivers key performance indicators. No document opened names other cab versions or gives cab dimensions. How day cabs, sleeper cabs and long-haul sleepers differ in general is covered in truck cabs explained.
The driver efficiency page marks two items as options on selected models and markets: cab air suspension, which it says reduces cab vibration, and an air-suspended driver’s seat with lumbar support and an optional armrest. The overview page lists an air-suspension seat without that mark. The fuel efficiency page lists an optional roof deflector, which UD Trucks says reduces the drag coefficient by 5%, and says all Quester models carry a built-in fuel coach, shown at the center of the LED display, that gives instructions in real time.
Engines
UD Trucks lists two diesel engines, both turbocharged with an air-to-air intercooler and both available in Euro 3 and Euro 5. The fuel efficiency page calls the GH8E an 8-liter and the GH11E an 11-liter diesel engine and gives their ratings in hp; the specs page gives power in PS, from 250 to 350 PS on the CQE, CKE and CDE and from 280 to 460 PS on the other five. No document opened gives kilowatt figures, cylinder counts or a displacement more exact than those names.
| Engine | Output | Torque |
|---|---|---|
| GH8E | 250 hp | 950 Nm |
| GH8E | 280 hp | 1,050 Nm |
| GH8E | 330 hp | 1,200 Nm |
| GH8E | 350 hp | 1,200 Nm |
| GH11E | 370 hp | 1,700 Nm |
| GH11E | 390 hp | 1,800 Nm |
| GH11E | 410 hp | 1,990 Nm |
| GH11E | 420 hp | 2,000 Nm |
| GH11E | 440 hp | 2,010 Nm |
| GH11E | 460 hp | 2,240 Nm |
The torque list on the specs page ends at 2,250, where the fuel efficiency page gives 2,240 Nm at 460 hp, and it does not list the 1,990 and 2,010 Nm of the fuel efficiency page. For the GH11E, the fuel efficiency page also lists an engine-driven power take-off with a maximum torque output of 650 Nm. UD Trucks says both engines deliver high torque from low revs with a flat torque curve, which it says reduces the need for gear changes. The overview page describes a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system that uses AdBlue to reduce nitrogen oxides. How power and torque figures relate is set out in reading truck power figures.
Transmission
| Models | Transmissions |
|---|---|
| CQE | 9-speed MT, 12-speed MT |
| CKE | 6-speed MT, 9-speed MT |
| CDE | 6-speed MT, 6-speed AT, 9-speed MT |
| CWE, CGE | 6-speed AT, 6-speed MT, 9-speed MT, 12-speed AMT, 12-speed MT |
| GKE, GDE, GWE | 6-speed MT, 9-speed MT, 12-speed AMT, 12-speed MT |
The automated gearbox is the ESCOT, which the driver efficiency page describes as a 12-speed automated manual transmission. The fuel efficiency page describes it as a non-synchromesh manual gearbox with an electronically regulated pneumatic gear-change system and an automatic clutch, controlled by an electronic unit that takes in speed, acceleration, weight, road condition and torque demand and communicates with the engine to adjust revs and engine brake effect. The same page names an ECO mode. The productivity page says aluminum components keep the gearbox’s weight down and names a PWR+ mode for construction work, with a rock loose mode for getting free in slippery and muddy conditions. The safety page names a Brake Max Mode, for trucks without a hydraulic retarder, in which the gearbox keeps downshifting to make more use of the engine brake. The principle of these gearboxes is explained in automated manual transmissions.
The productivity page gives the automatic versions as the Allison 3000/3200 for the GH8E and the Allison 4000 for the GH11E, with a torque converter, and the manual gearboxes as 6-speed, 9-speed and 12-speed. The fuel efficiency page lists ESCOT, Allison and manual gearboxes for both engines. The waste management section of the wide range page describes an Allison automatic and lists 4×2R and 6×4R; the specs page gives an automatic for the CDE, CWE and CGE.
Axles, frame and suspension
UD Trucks describes a main frame with high-tensile steel rails, which it says reduce the vehicle’s weight, and a rolling form frame that it says suits both vertical and torsion stress. The productivity page says both the front and the rear axles are built for high loads, and it says the new single-reduction axles add further ratios. Hub reduction is available on the tandem axles with the T-Ride rear suspension; the uptime page says it gives higher ground clearance for rough and hilly work and is pre-assembled and pre-adjusted at the factory. The front axle hub is of the oil-bath type.
The uptime page describes a rear leaf suspension on the 6×4T/R and 8×4R for rough conditions, and a rear air suspension with height adjustment. No document opened gives axle ratings or axle ratios.
Brakes
| Models | Braking system as listed |
|---|---|
| CQE, CKE | Full air brake system; automatic slack adjuster; ABS optional; spring-based parking brakes; exhaust brake as standard |
| CDE | Full air brake system; automatic slack adjuster; ABS optional; exhaust brake as standard |
| CWE | Full air brake system; automatic slack adjuster; ABS optional; spring-based parking brakes; auxiliary brake; engine brake optional |
| CGE, GKE, GDE, GWE | Full air brake system; automatic slack adjuster; ABS optional; spring-based parking brakes; engine brake optional |
The safety page describes full S-cam air brakes, an exhaust brake on the GH8E and GH11E, and the UD Extra Engine Brake (UD EEB), which works with back pressure in the cylinders, exhaust pressure and a valve system UD Trucks says is patented. It gives the UD EEB as standard on the 11-liter engine; the fuel efficiency page, which abbreviates it UD EBB, gives it as optional on both engines, and the specs page lists the engine brake as optional on five models.
The overview page calls the hydraulic retarder optional; the safety page says it lets a loaded vehicle’s speed be held downhill without the service brake. The productivity page describes a transmission retarder that works together with the UD EEB to hold a steady speed downhill. How these auxiliary brakes work is explained in retarders and engine braking explained.
Dimensions and weights
The weights on UD Trucks’ Quester pages are those in the table under Overview and range: GVW from 21.0 Ton on the CKE 4x2 to 41.0 Ton on the CGE 8x4, and GCW of 48.00 Ton on the GKE 4x2, 56.00 Ton on the GDE 6x2 and 80.00 Ton on the GWE 6x4. The specs page prints “Ton” without defining it. UD Trucks attributes lower tare weight to the high-tensile frame rails, aluminum wheels and tanks and the aluminum parts of the ESCOT. No UD Trucks document opened gives overall dimensions, wheelbases, a kerb weight, a payload, or fuel or AdBlue tank volumes. What the weight terms mean is set out in truck weights: GVW and GCW.
Safety and driver-assistance systems
| System | As UD Trucks describes it |
|---|---|
| UD Stability Control (UDSC) | Works with the Electronic Braking System (EBS) through yaw control and roll stability control, and intervenes automatically when it detects instability |
| ABS | Listed among the braking functions on the safety page; listed as optional on the specs page |
| Front Underrun Protection System (FUPS) | Keeps smaller vehicles from being wedged under the front in a collision |
| Rear-view mirrors | Two options, depending on customer preference or regulation: Japanese type and ECE-certified |
| Parking brake alarm | Alerts the driver to engage the parking brake before getting out |
| Cruise control | Holds a constant speed |
| Extended ADR | An option, with the electrical system encapsulated and protected from external thermal anomalies |
UD Trucks says the Quester is fully compliant with ECE requirements for cab safety, braking, ADR, lighting and noise, and that ECE R29 for cab strength is part of that certification.
Equipment and connected services
The wide range page lists a composite aerodynamic bumper for long-haul trucks and a steel off-road bumper for construction, and the uptime page lists a three-piece steel off-road bumper as an option. The cab tilts electrically, which the uptime page says gives a large opening for access to the engine. The Body Builder Module (BBM) gives superstructure control systems access to vehicle signals and functions; the productivity page lists it as factory-fitted or as a prep kit, plug and play through the aftermarket.
UD Trucks names UD Telematics and UD Connected Services, the second of which it describes as a wireless communications system supported by its dealers and specialists, for fleets and drivers. It also names service contracts at three levels, Standard, Extra and Ultimate, and driver training courses.
