The ETH28 is the 6x2 battery-electric rigid truck of BYD Truck & Van Europe, listed with lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries of 400, 600 or 651 kWh. BYD’s line for it is “Built for demanding jobs.” This page is built from three BYD documents: the ETH28 product page on the BYD Truck & Van Europe site, undated and read on 4 November 2026, which carries the technical table; the home page of the same site, undated and read on the same day; and BYD’s German press release on IAA Transportation 2026, dated Hannover, 16 September 2026.

BYD’s press release of 16 September 2026 says that its commercial-vehicle offer at IAA Transportation was complemented by new 4x2 and 6x2 models, shown as 26-tonne swap-body and hooklift variants, and that BYD will in future cover vehicle classes from 3.5 to 44 tonnes in Europe. The release does not name the ETH28. The product page lists the ETH28 as a “6×2 rigid truck” with a G.V.W of 30,500 kg, beside five other models: the ETT44 (electric tractor), the ETH20 (4×2 rigid truck), the ETM6 (light-duty truck), the ETH8 (medium-duty truck) and the EYT 2.0 (terminal tractor). No document opened gives a start of production, an order or delivery date, or an earlier generation of the ETH28.
Cab and interior
BYD’s table gives the cabs as “Flat/high roof flat-floor sleeper, flat roof day cab”. The product page describes the flat-roof cab as available as a day cab or as a flat-floor sleeper with an integrated bunk, and the high-roof sleeper cab as having additional headroom and storage.
For the interior, BYD describes a flat-floor layout with integrated storage, an ergonomic cockpit that places essential information and frequently used controls within reach, seats with integrated armrests for driver and passenger, a climate and ventilation system that distributes air through the interior, a bunk, a central touchscreen for infotainment, phone connectivity and climate settings, and an integrated refrigerator. No document opened gives cab dimensions or says which of these items are standard and which optional.
Electric drive
The ETH28 has no combustion engine. The technical table gives two drive ratings and two voltages, one pair for the 400 and 600 kWh versions and one for the 651 kWh version.
| Item | LFP 400 kWh | LFP 600 kWh | LFP 651 kWh (High Battery) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nominal voltage | 640 V | 640 V | 850 V |
| Rated power | 420 kW | 420 kW | 540 kW |
| Peak power | 600 kW | 600 kW | 750 kW |
| Top speed | 90 km/h | 90 km/h | 90 km/h |
| ePTO AC | 43 kW | 43 kW | 43 kW |
| ePTO DC (rated/peak) | 83/128 kW | 83/128 kW | 110/170 kW |
BYD’s home page says that the company designs and manufactures “every key component in-house, from motors to onboard architecture”. No document opened gives the number or type of motors, a torque, a gearbox or an axle ratio for the ETH28.
Battery, range and charging
The table gives LFP as the chemistry of all three versions. The product page says that the ETH28 “offers 400 and 600 kWh battery configurations, with a dedicated 651 kWh version for selected applications”, and the table heads the third column “LFP 651 kWh (High Battery)”. No document opened says whether these figures are installed or usable capacity. The table gives a driving range for each version and states no load, temperature or test procedure for it; how such figures are stated is covered in how electric-truck range is declared.
| Item | LFP 400 kWh | LFP 600 kWh | LFP 651 kWh (High Battery) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Driving range | 440 km | 670 km | 750 km |
| DC charging | 340 kW | 340 kW | 450 kW (1,060 kW MCS) |
| DC 20–80% SoC | 48 min | 69 min | 60 min |
| MCS 20–80% SoC | – | – | 25 min |
| AC charging | 43 kW optional | 43 kW optional | 43 kW optional |
The table lists the Megawatt Charging System (MCS) for the 651 kWh version only. No document opened names the connector standard for the DC charging. The “Core technology” section of BYD’s home page speaks of its truck platforms generally and names no model: it gives “Megawatt Flash Charging exceeding 1.5 MW” with 20 to 80% in 20 minutes, where the ETH28 table gives 1,060 kW and 25 minutes. The same section describes the Blade Battery for commercial vehicles, with “a warranty of up to 10 years or 1.2 million kilometres”; the ETH28 product page gives the chemistry as LFP and does not use the name Blade.
Chassis, axles and bodies
The axle formula is 6x2. For all three versions the table gives a wheelbase of “4,500 ~ 5,400 + 1,350 mm”, axle design loads of 9,000 kg front, 13,000 kg rear and 8,500 kg lift, and a minimum turning radius of 8.3 to 9.8 m depending on the wheelbase. BYD says that “The electrohydraulically steered rear axle supports manoeuvring in tight locations” and that, when load conditions allow, lifting the axle helps reduce tyre wear and rolling resistance.
For bodies, BYD states: “From distribution bodies to hooklift and swap-body applications, the ETH28 provides a flexible foundation for specialist equipment.” It also refers to different chassis configurations, without listing them. Swap bodies are covered in swap bodies explained. No document opened gives a suspension, brake or tyre specification for the ETH28.
Dimensions and weights

| Axle design load front/rear/lift | 9,000/13,000/8,500 kg |
| Minimum turning radius | 8.3 ~ 9.8 m (depending on wheelbase) |
The height entry carries two figures for the flat roof and one for the high roof; no document opened says what separates the two flat-roof figures. The difference between a gross vehicle weight and a gross combination weight is explained in truck weights: GVW and GCW. No document opened gives a payload.
Visibility and safety
BYD states: “The passenger-side vision window extends the driver’s direct view of the area alongside the cab, helping them spot nearby pedestrians and cyclists during urban driving and low-speed manoeuvres.” No document opened lists driver-assistance systems for the ETH28.
Source notes
All figures are from BYD documents. The technical table on the ETH28 product page of BYD Truck & Van Europe (undated, read on 4 November 2026) lists three versions: LFP 400 kWh, LFP 600 kWh and LFP 651 kWh (High Battery). No document opened says whether these are installed or usable capacities. Rated and peak power are 420 and 600 kW on the first two versions and 540 and 750 kW on the third, at a nominal 640 V and 850 V. Driving range is 440, 670 and 750 km, with no load, temperature or test procedure stated. DC charging is 340 kW, 340 kW and 450 kW, with 20 to 80% in 48, 69 and 60 minutes; MCS at 1,060 kW, with 20 to 80% in 25 minutes, is listed for the 651 kWh version only. The table gives a length of 9,980 to 11,490 mm, a width of 2,550 mm, heights of 3,195 and 3,930 mm for the flat roof and 3,820 mm for the high roof, a wheelbase of 4,500 to 5,400 mm plus 1,350 mm, a gross vehicle weight of 30,500 kg, a gross combination weight of up to 65,000 kg and curb weights of 10,250 to 10,750 kg, 11,450 to 11,950 kg and 12,300 kg. The home page of the same site gives, for BYD’s truck platforms generally, MCS peak power above 1.5 MW, 20 to 80% in 20 minutes and a battery warranty of up to 10 years or 1.2 million km. BYD’s German press release of 16 September 2026 says that new 4x2 and 6x2 models were shown at IAA Transportation as 26-tonne swap-body and hooklift variants, and does not name the ETH28. No document opened gives a start of production, the number of motors, a torque, a gearbox, a suspension, brake or tyre specification, a payload or driver-assistance systems.
