The Ecotorq is the heavy-truck diesel engine family of Ford Otosan in Turkey, fitted to the trucks of the Ford Trucks brand. Ford Otosan says that it holds “all intellectual and industrial property rights” in the Ecotorq engine and ATS family. The current Euro 6 family comes in two sizes: a 9-litre GEN1.5 engine of 330 PS (243 kW), and a 12.7-litre engine, now in its GEN2 version, of 450 PS (330 kW) or 510 PS (375 kW). Ford’s user manual lists six cylinders for both. On this site the Ecotorq is the engine of the Ford Trucks F-LINE and F-MAX.

Status as of 26 October 2026. Read that day: Ford Otosan’s Ecotorq engine family page; Ford Trucks’ two GEN2 engine pages, its GEN2 engine and vehicle catalogues (both files named 2025), its F-LINE catalogue (file named 2026-07), its F-MAX and F-LINE tractor data sheets of September 2024 and its page of GEN1.5 vehicle brochures; Ford Trucks España’s F-LINE data sheets of July 2025; Ford Component Sales’ 9.0L Ecotorq sheet; and the English Ford Trucks user manual. All are documents of Ford Otosan, Ford Trucks or Ford.

Maker, name and sizes

Ford Otosan’s engine family page describes the new generation Ecotorq family as a truck engine “developed from scratch and made in Turkey”, developed “entirely by Turkish engineers in as little as four years” and “launched with an investment of more than $100 million”. The engines carry the Ford Trucks brand; Ford Trucks also uses the Ecotorq name for its 16-speed automated gearbox (Ecotorq 16S 2600), which this page does not cover. Ford Component Sales, on Ford’s UK website, offers the 9-litre engine on its own as the “9.0L Ecotorq Engine - On Road Product”.

Ford’s documents name the versions by generation and size. The F-LINE catalogue says the Ecotorq “comes in two sizes to suit different needs: 9 L and 12.7 L”, and that “The GEN 1.5 engine has 9L volume” while “The GEN2 engine has 12.7L volume”. The data sheets of September 2024 give the 12.7-litre engine as “GEN1.5 Ecotorq Euro 6”; Ford Trucks España’s construction sheet of July 2025 gives it as “GEN2 Ecotorq Euro 6”. None of the documents read explains the name GEN1.5 or uses a GEN1 label.

For the F-LINE series, whose trucks carry both sizes, the F-LINE catalogue names a “twin flow exhaust gas recirculation system, fixed geometry turbocharger, common-rail fuel injection system and intelligent electronic control unit”. The three compression ratios for the 12.7-litre engine are those the documents print: the manual gives “21 ± 0,5:1” for its 12.7 LT 450 PS and 510 PS entries, the GEN2 engine catalogue names CR21, and the F-LINE catalogue of 2026 gives “17:1” for its 12.7 L ratings, which its text calls GEN2. This page does not resolve the difference. The engine brake is the kind described in retarders and engine braking.

Ratings as the maker states them

Ford’s data sheets and F-LINE catalogue give power in PS with kW in brackets and the engine speed of each figure; Ford Trucks España writes CV for PS, and Ford Trucks’ GEN2 engine page and GEN2 catalogues give PS only. How the units relate is explained in reading truck power figures.

9-litre GEN1.5

Ford Trucks España’s F-LINE 2633 sheet of July 2025 gives the 9-litre engine as “330 CV (243 kW) a 1900 rpm” with “1400 Nm a 1200-1650 rpm”. The F-LINE catalogue gives the same “330 PS (243 kW) @ 1900 d/d” and “1400 Nm @ 1200-1650 d/d”, and says the 9-litre engine “produces 330 PS for road and construction series”. Ford Component Sales’ sheet gives 330 PS and 1400 Nm.

12.7-litre GEN1.5: the September 2024 sheets

Ford Trucks’ F-MAX and F-LINE tractor data sheets of September 2024 give the engine as “GEN1.5 Ecotorq Euro 6” and list three 12.7-litre ratings.

F-MAX, F-MAX L and F-MAX LL500 PS (368 kW) at 1,800 rpm2,500 Nm at 1,000–1,400 rpm

Ford Otosan’s family page says the Euro 6 Ecotorq “can generate 330, 420 and 480 PS power”. The F-LINE 2633 sheet of July 2025 also prints power and torque curves titled “Ecotorq 12.7 L EU6 420 CV” and “Ecotorq 12.7L EU6 480CV”, without figures beside the curves.

12.7-litre GEN2

Ford Trucks’ GEN2 engine page and GEN2 engine catalogue say the engine “has 12.7 L volume and produces 450 PS power for road, construction and 4x2 tractor. It can also have 510 PS for F-MAX series and 6x4 tractor series”. The F-LINE catalogue gives the figures with kW and engine speeds.

The catalogue’s construction row carries two pairs of figures; its text says the construction trucks “have 450 PS and 2300 Nm torque” and that “When off-road mode is activated in case of high power demand, the torque increases to 2500 Nm”. It says that “For 6x4 tractor, power mode and normal mode will be available” and that “For F-MAX series, power mode, normal mode and eco mode will be available”.

Ford Trucks España’s 6x4 construction sheet of July 2025 gives the GEN2 as “450 CV (353 kW) a 1800 rpm”, with “2500 Nm a 1100-1200 rpm (Modo Off-Road)” and “2300 Nm a 1300-1500 rpm (Modo Normal)”. Its kW figure is the one the September 2024 sheet gives for 480 PS; the F-LINE catalogue gives 450 PS as 330 kW and the construction torque of 2,500 Nm at 1,000–1,200 rpm. This page does not resolve the difference.

Generations

The documents read for this page date trucks with the new generation Ecotorq from 2016; the generation labels GEN1.5 and GEN2 appear on Ford Trucks’ sheets of 2024 and 2025.

2016: the new generation Ecotorq

Ford Otosan’s page states: “Ford Cargo Trucks, equipped with new generation Ecotorq engines, compliant with Euro 7 emission standards are manufactured in the Eskişehir Plant since 2016.” It adds that the engine and ATS family “tailored for the demands of different export markets have been designed to meet the Euro-3, Euro-5 and Euro-6 emission norms”. It gives no ratings by year.

GEN1.5

Ford Trucks keeps a page headed “Technical Brochures of GEN1.5 Vehicles”, which lists brochures of the F-MAX series, the F-LINE tractor series and the road and construction series. The 9-litre engine is still “GEN1.5 Ecotorq Euro 6” on Ford Trucks España’s F-LINE 2633 sheet of July 2025 and “The GEN 1.5 engine” in the F-LINE catalogue of 2026. None of the documents read gives a start date for GEN1.5.

GEN2

Ford Trucks’ international GEN2 page describes the engine as “Exclusive to F-MAX and F-LINE” and as “Replacing its current Ecotorq GEN1.5 engine with the newly redesigned new generation Ecotorq GEN2 engine”. It says Ford Trucks tested the GEN2 “in 8 different countries under varying road and climate conditions for over 25,000 hours and more than 1.5 million kilometers”, and that the engine “is compatible with 70% of its vehicle lineup”. The page gives no launch date; the earliest dated document read that names the GEN2 is Ford Trucks España’s construction sheet of July 2025.

The GEN2 engine catalogue lists what is new: a combustion system with “Increased Compression Ratio (CR21) and Peak Firing Pressure (PFP)”, a new piston shape and a new generation fuel injection system; a new cylinder head with a revised cooling circuit; new exhaust and intake valves and seats; a new fixed geometry (FGT) turbocharger; and active thermal management with a variable displacement oil pump (VDOP), electronically controlled piston cooling jets (e-PCJ) and an electronic thermostatic oil valve (e-TOV). It gives a “Weight Reduction of 47 kg with respect to GEN1.5”.

Fuels and emission class

Ford’s documents give diesel as the Ecotorq’s fuel; none of those read lists a natural-gas version.

  • Diesel and biodiesel. The user manual gives the fuel as “Euro Diesel TS EN590” and states: “Your vehicle is suitable for using with a fuel with a bio-diesel ratio of 7% (B7). B7 should be used in Euro 3 and Euro 5 vehicles. For Euro 6 vehicles, B7 and XTL can be used.” Ford Component Sales’ 9.0L sheet says “Up to 7% biodiesel allowed”.
  • HVO. Ford Trucks’ GEN2 engine page calls the GEN2 engine “compatible with HVO (Hydro-treated Vegetable Oil)”, and the GEN2 engine catalogue lists “HVO Compatibility” and describes HVO as a “Drop-in Fuel”: “No hardware or calibration change is needed on the truck in order to use it with HVO.” None of the documents read makes the same statement for the 9-litre GEN1.5. HVO is covered in what is HVO fuel.

Ford’s data sheets give both sizes as Euro 6 (“GEN1.5 Ecotorq Euro 6”, “GEN2 Ecotorq Euro 6”), and the F-LINE catalogue’s curves are titled “EU6”. Ford Otosan’s page says the engine and ATS family was “developed to meet the Euro-6 emission norms and to comply with Euro-7”, and names Euro-3 and Euro-5 versions for export markets. None of the Ford documents read names the Euro VI step (A to E) of a given build or a Euro 7 type approval; the steps and the Euro 7 dates are covered in Euro VI and Euro 7. The vehicle data sheets list an SCR tank beside the fuel tank; how SCR and AdBlue work is covered in SCR and AdBlue explained.
