FPT F1A 2.3-litre engine: ratings, emission classes and the vehicles that use it
FPT Industrial's F1A is a 2.3-litre four-cylinder diesel for light commercial vehicles: its three ratings as FPT states them, its Euro 6d final and Euro VI E certification, and the Iveco Daily.

The F1A is a 2.3-litre, four-cylinder in-line diesel engine for light commercial vehicles, built by FPT Industrial, the powertrain brand of the Iveco Group. FPT’s product page lists three ratings, 85, 100 and 115 kW (116, 136 and 156 HP), all certified to Euro 6d final, a light-duty standard; the two upper ratings are also certified to Euro VI E, a heavy-duty standard. On this site the engine appears in the record of one model, the Iveco Daily.
Status as of 26 October 2026. FPT Industrial’s F1A product page, including the technical data of its three ratings, and FPT’s on-road engines brochure, with product information as at printing on 31 May 2026, were read on 26 October 2026, together with three FPT releases dated 2018, 2021 and 2025.
What the engine is
FPT Industrial S.p.A., based in Turin, describes itself in the footer of its pages as “a brand of Iveco Group”. Its product page says “The F1 family includes the F1A engine (2.3L)”, and FPT’s release of 14 May 2025 describes the F1 engine family as “designed for light commercial vehicles and minibuses” and gives the two engines FPT offers in that segment as the 3-litre F1C and the 2.3-litre F1A. FPT’s product page files the F1A under its on-road engines for “LCVs & Minibuses”. Its 2026 brochure lists it in the section on engines for light commercial vehicles as “F1A (4 cyl., 2.3 L)”; the brochure’s F1 section for bus engines lists only the F1C and the F1C NG. The engine record on this site writes it as F1A (2.3-litre diesel).
FPT’s product page says “All F1A engines are available for both transverse and longitudinal installation”. Its release of 6 March 2018, on the Fiat Ducato for South America, gave the F1A as produced at the brand’s plant in Sete Lagoas, Brazil. FPT’s technical data for the engine give the following:
| Item | FPT F1A |
|---|---|
| Displacement | 2.3 l |
| Cylinders | 4 in line, 4 valves per cylinder (written “4L / 4”) |
| Bore x stroke | 88 x 94 mm |
| Injection system | ECR (electronic common rail), 2,000 bar in the brochure |
| Turbocharger | e-VGT (electronic variable-geometry turbocharger) |
| Aftertreatment | EGR - DOC - SCRoF - SCR - CUC |
| Emission certification | Euro 6d final (all ratings); Euro VI E (100 and 115 kW ratings) |
| Fuel | Diesel |
| Dimensions (L x W x H) | 707 x 662 x 826 mm |
| Dry weight | 202 kg |
The product page gives the same displacement, cylinder layout, bore and stroke, dimensions and dry weight for each of the three ratings, with the note “Dimensions can be changed according to engine options”; the brochure’s footnote says the same of dimensions and weight. The page’s legend expands e-VGT as “Electronic Variable Geometry Turbo” and ECR as “Electronic Common Rail”; its text gives the common-rail pressure as “up to 2000 bar”.
Emission classes and aftertreatment
FPT’s product page says “F1A engines are certified for both light-duty and heavy-duty operation. Euro 6 D final / Euro VI E emission standards are met thanks to the EGR + DOC + SCRoF + SCR + CUC solution”. Its rating cards and the 2026 brochure list the 85 kW rating as Euro 6d final only and the 100 kW and 115 kW ratings as Euro 6d final and Euro VI E. The light-duty Euro 6 standards and the heavy-duty Euro VI standards are separate regimes; how they differ, and the steps of Euro VI up to Step E, are set out in Euro VI and Euro 7.
The page’s legend expands EGR as “External Exhaust Gas Recirculation”, DOC as “Diesel Oxidation Catalyst”, SCR as “Selective Catalytic Reduction” and CUC as “Clean Up Catalyst”; SCRoF is not in the page’s legend, and the brochure’s legend expands it as “Selective Catalytic Reduction on Filter”. The page describes the system as an “ATS system with dual SCR”. FPT’s release of 30 June 2021 on the new Daily says the Daily’s two diesel engines, the F1A among them, comply with “the Euro 6-D Final and Euro VI-E standards, achieving Conformity Factor 1 (CF=1)”, and that their dual SCR system was “completely redesigned to occupy the same space as on previous models”. How SCR and AdBlue work, and what the law makes the system detect, is set out in SCR and AdBlue.
Fuels
FPT lists the F1A as a diesel engine: the 2026 brochure’s specification table gives “DIESEL” in the fuel column of each F1A rating, and the 2021 release, after naming the F1A and the F1C, refers to “Both diesel engines”. The brochure names one natural-gas engine in the F1 series, the “F1C NG (4 cyl., 3L)”. None of the FPT documents opened for this page names a natural-gas version of the F1A, or HVO or another renewable diesel for it; HVO itself is described in what HVO fuel is.
Ratings as FPT states them
FPT’s product page and its 2026 brochure give the same three ratings, with the engine speeds at which each reaches its maximum power and torque. The product page’s summary line gives the top of the range as “up to 115 kW (156 hp) - 400 Nm”.
| Maximum power | Maximum torque | Certification |
|---|---|---|
| 85 kW (116 HP) at 3,500 rpm | 340 Nm at 1,500 rpm | Euro 6d final |
| 100 kW (136 HP) at 3,500 rpm | 370 Nm at 1,400 rpm | Euro 6d final, Euro VI E |
| 115 kW (156 HP) at 3,500 rpm | 400 Nm at 1,600 rpm | Euro 6d final, Euro VI E |
FPT’s release of 30 June 2021 gives “the 2.3 liter F1A with power output from 116 to 156 HP (available with light duty and heavy duty homologation)”. Its release of 6 March 2018 gives a figure for one market version: in the Fiat Ducato for South America, “the power reaches a maximum delivery of up to 130 hp”. FPT’s product page and brochure give power in kW with HP alongside, its releases in HP or hp; how the units and the rated engine speeds relate is set out in how to read a truck’s power figures.
Generations and dates
The FPT documents opened for this page do not give the year the F1A was introduced and do not divide it into numbered generations. The dated steps they record are:
- 2003: FPT’s release of 14 May 2025, in its sentence on the F1C and the F1 engine family, gives “over 5 million units sold since 2003”. The release does not give a start year for the F1A itself.
- 6 March 2018: FPT reports the new Fiat Ducato in South America as “now powered by FPT Industrial F1A engines”, produced at Sete Lagoas in Brazil, with a 2.3-litre displacement and up to 130 hp in that version.
- 30 June 2021: at Iveco’s launch of the new Daily, FPT describes the 2.3-litre F1A among the Daily’s “new propulsion units”, rated from 116 to 156 HP with light-duty and heavy-duty homologation, compliant with Euro 6-D Final and Euro VI-E, and with a dual SCR system.
- 14 May 2025: FPT’s release, in its passage on the F1 engine family for light commercial vehicles and minibuses, gives the 3-litre F1C and the 2.3-litre F1A as the two engines FPT offers in that segment.
- 31 May 2026: FPT’s on-road brochure, with product information as at printing on that date, lists the three F1A ratings of 85, 100 and 115 kW, certified to Euro 6d final and, for the two upper ratings, Euro VI E.
- 26 October 2026: FPT’s product page lists the same three ratings and certifications.
