The Tector 7 is a 6.7-litre, six-cylinder in-line engine designed and built by FPT Industrial, the Iveco Group’s powertrain brand, in a diesel version and a natural-gas version. FPT sells them as the N67 and the N67 NG; in Iveco’s trucks and buses the engine carries the name Tector 7. FPT’s release of 24 January 2025 describes the N67 NG as “designed and manufactured for IVECO as the Tector 7”, and Iveco’s release of 20 January 2025 speaks of “Tector 7 (N67) CNG engines designed and manufactured by FPT Industrial”. FPT lists both versions for trucks and for buses, certified to Euro VI Step E.

Status as of 26 October 2026. FPT Industrial’s N67 and N67 NG product pages for trucks and for buses were read on 26 October 2026, together with five press releases from Iveco and FPT Industrial dated 2011 to 2025.

What the engine is

FPT places the N67 in its NEF range, and its product pages describe that range in one sentence: “NEF EURO VI step E engines come in 4- and 6-cylinder configurations, with displacements ranging from 4.5 to 6.7 liters.” The N67 is the six-cylinder member at 6.7 litres, and FPT adds that “the 6.7 liter is offered in natural gas version”. The same pages say that, in addition to road transport, NEF engines cover agriculture, construction, industrial, marine and power-generation applications.

The name depends on who prints it. FPT’s product pages and press releases say N67 and N67 NG; Iveco’s releases say Tector 7, and its January 2025 release joins the two as “Tector 7 (N67)”. The model records on this site use Iveco’s name. For the diesel, FPT names “latest-generation Common Rail injection, waste-gate turbocharger and EGR-free architecture”, with an aftertreatment it calls the “regeneration-free HI-eSCR system”. The figures below are the ones FPT prints on the rating cards of its product pages.

The diesel column comes from FPT’s N67 truck and bus pages, the gas column from its N67 NG truck and bus pages; the in-line six-cylinder layout, the WG turbocharger, the 548 kg and “EU VI E2” are repeated in the technical specifications of FPT’s January 2025 release. FPT spells out the abbreviations on the same pages: ECR is electronic common rail, MPI multi-points injection, WG a fixed geometry turbocharger with waste gate valve, DOC a diesel oxidation catalyst, DPF a diesel particulate filter with passive regeneration, SCR selective catalytic reduction, CUC a clean-up catalyst and CPF a CNG particulate filter. The steps of Euro VI, Step E among them, are set out in Euro VI and Euro 7 for trucks, and the reduction stage itself in SCR and AdBlue.

Fuels: diesel and methane

The N67 is a diesel. For the N67 NG, FPT’s truck and bus pages carry the line “COMPATIBLE WITH CNG, LNG AND BIOMETHANE”, and its release of 16 November 2023 says “the Euro VI Step E compliant N67 NG is compatible with CNG, LNG and Biomethane”. FPT’s release of 24 January 2025 names two of them: “The N67 NG is compatible with CNG and biomethane”. The 2023 release describes the gas engine’s combustion as FPT Industrial’s “multipoint stoichiometric combustion” and its aftertreatment as a “three-way catalyst with CPF and without EGR”; both the 2023 and the 2025 release name a Nickel-Resist cast-iron exhaust manifold and a water-cooled wastegate turbocharger. Methane carried as a liquid, and its biological counterpart, are covered in LNG and bio-LNG trucks.

None of the FPT or Iveco documents opened for this page names HVO, biodiesel or another renewable diesel fuel for the N67. The fuels Iveco Bus lists for the Tector 7 in its intercity bus are set out on the Iveco Crossway page.

Ratings as FPT and Iveco state them

FPT’s rating cards give each rating in kW with HP beside it and the engine speed at which maximum power is reached, then the maximum torque with its engine speed.

The four diesel truck cards carry the same horsepower steps as Iveco’s 2013 release, which counts “four Tector 7 models, with 220, 250, 280 and 320 HP”, except that FPT’s card writes the second of them as 185 kW (252 HP).

For the gas engine, the documents differ on the number of ratings. FPT’s release of 24 January 2025 says “Three ratings are available: 220 hp/800 Nm, 250 hp/850 Nm, and 280 hp/1000 Nm”, and Iveco’s release of 20 January 2025 says “the 6.7-litre CNG engine is available in three versions: 220 hp, 250 hp and 280 hp”. FPT’s N67 NG truck page, read on 26 October 2026, carries a fourth card at 210 kW (286 HP) with 1,250 Nm, and prints the 850 Nm step as 185 kW (252 HP). Its bus page has a single card, 206 kW (280 HP) at 2,000 rpm with 980 Nm at 1,200 rpm. The units on these documents, kW and HP on FPT’s cards and hp in the releases, and what a rated engine speed means, are explained in how to read a truck’s power figures.

Generations and dates

In the Iveco documents opened for this page, the Tector 7 name appears from the 2013 Euro VI release onwards, and FPT’s January 2025 release names the gas engine that came before the N67 NG, the N60 NG. The dates in the documents opened for this page are:

  • 2011: in a release in Iveco’s Italian press archive, Iveco and FPT Industrial announce an “SCR Only” aftertreatment for “due gamme di nuovi motori Cursor e Tector per veicoli commerciali pesanti e autobus” (two ranges of new Cursor and Tector engines for heavy commercial vehicles and buses), meeting Euro VI without exhaust gas recirculation (EGR). The release gives the new Tector and Cursor engines a common-rail system with a maximum injection pressure “fino a 2200 bar” (up to 2,200 bar) and says Euro VI is to apply to all new heavy commercial vehicles and buses registered “a partire dal 1° gennaio 2014” (from 1 January 2014).
  • 2013: Iveco’s release on the new Eurocargo Euro VI presents “four Tector 7 models, with 220, 250, 280 and 320 HP”, a six-cylinder engine of 6.7 litres whose displacement, it says, had been increased, and the “HI-eSCR technology, patented by FPT Industrial”, which it says “reduces nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions by over 95% without altering the combustion process”.
  • 15 and 16 November 2023: FPT’s release of 16 November 2023 on the launch of the IVECO Model Year 24 range in Barcelona, held on 15 November, lists “the N67 NG for the Eurocargo CNG” among the products on show and gives it as Euro VI Step E compliant, with up to 280 HP and 1000 Nm.
  • 20 and 24 January 2025: Iveco’s release of 20 January 2025 says the Eurocargo is equipped with “a new generation of Tector 7 (N67) CNG engines”; FPT’s release, dated 24 January 2025 on its page, calls the N67 NG “an evolution of the previous N60 NG”, with displacement increased to 6.7 litres, power to 280 hp and torque to 1000 Nm, and lists its emission level as “EU VI E2”.
  • 26 October 2026: FPT’s product pages carry Euro VI E on every diesel card and on the N67 NG truck cards, and Euro VI E2 on the N67 NG bus card.
