The D and the D Wide make up Renault Trucks’ Distribution range. Renault Trucks’ corporate page describes it as “the Renault Trucks D Wide (rigids and tractors from 16 to 26 t) and Renault Trucks D (rigids from 7.5 to 18 t)”, and names household and industrial waste collection, cleaning and sanitary services, fire-fighting and emergency services, vehicle transport, parcel services and temperature-controlled transport among their fields. Renault Trucks presents both in one brochure; the D has a 2.1 m cab and the D Wide a 2.3 m cab. The figures on this page come from Renault Trucks’ English distribution and light construction brochure for the D, D Wide and C 2.3, edition 09/2024, whose engine, gearbox, axle, wheelbase and cab tables are the same as in the 09/2023 edition that the UK product pages still link; from the UK, German and corporate product pages, which carry no date (read on 17 October 2026); and from Renault Trucks and Volvo Group press releases dated 2013 to 2026. Renault Trucks’ history page says Renault V.I. became part of the Volvo Group in 2001 and took the name Renault Trucks the following year. The C 2.3 that shares the brochure is described on the Renault Trucks C page.
Overview and generations
Renault Trucks presented its renewed Euro 6 range on 11 June 2013, and the Volvo Group’s release of the next day names three models in the D range: “the Renault Trucks D, a model from 10 t to 18 t; the Renault Trucks D Wide, a model from 16 t to 26 t and the Renault Trucks D Access, a model with a low entry cab from 18 t to 26 t”. The same release says the new Distribution range “is based on preceding models” without naming them, and introduces the DTI 5 and DTI 8 engines, with maximum torque available from 900 rpm. The long-haul Renault Trucks T and the construction Renault Trucks K belong to the same 2013 renewal. No document opened gives a date for the start of D range production.
Renault Trucks presented the 2019 version of the D and D Wide on 12 December 2018, with DTI 5, DTI 8 and DTI 11 engines meeting Euro 6 Step D, new side deflectors and a roof deflector with 12 setting positions, adaptive cruise control and an adjustable speed limiter, and stated fuel savings of up to 7% against the previous generation; the release adds that the D and D Wide were available in a CNG version. Model year 2020, announced by Renault Trucks UK on 10 December 2019, brought a redesigned dashboard with a new steering wheel and instrument cluster, two USB-C ports and connectivity as standard (“TGW 4G”). On 2 May 2022 Renault Trucks announced the 2023 models: the DE11 engine and a new generation of the Optidriver gearbox for the D Wide, the 8-speed Optishift automatic gearbox for the D, and the BirdView four-camera system; the release states fuel savings of up to 10% for the D Wide and 9% for the D against the previous generation. On 12 October 2023 Renault Trucks announced a facelift of the D, D Wide, C 2.3 and D Wide LEC, with full LED headlights in “a new C-shaped signature”, a new upper grille and a “π” shape embossed on the front. The photograph above shows the earlier front.
Engines
The brochure lists three diesel engines and one natural-gas engine. The DTI 5 and DTI 8 are offered on the D; the D Wide is offered with the DTI 8 and the 11-litre DE11, and the D Wide CNG with the NGT 9. The brochure’s engine tables give each rating in kilowatts and horsepower.

| DTI 5 | 5.1 l, 4 in line | 110 x 135 mm | 154 kW (210 hp), 800 Nm; 176 kW (240 hp), 900 Nm | 564 kg |
| DTI 8 | 7.7 l, 6 in line | 110 x 135 mm | 184 kW (250 hp), 950 Nm; 206 kW (280 hp), 1,050 Nm; 235 kW (320 hp), 1,200 Nm | 732 kg |
| DE11 | 10.8 l, 6 in line | 123 x 152 mm | 285 kW (380 hp), 1,800 Nm; 323 kW (430 hp), 2,050 Nm; 344 kW (460 hp), 2,200 Nm | 965 kg |
| NGT 9 (CNG) | 8.9 l, 6 in line | 114 x 144.5 mm | 239 kW (320 hp), 1,356 Nm | 777 kg |
The brochure marks the DTI 5 compatible with bio-diesel at 240 hp and with XTL, the DTI 8 with bio-diesel at 320 hp and with XTL, and the DE11 with XTL, and says the DTI 5 and DTI 8 accept B30 and B100. The DE11 curves give peak torque at 938–1,400 rpm on the 380 hp rating, 1,008–1,400 rpm on the 430 hp and 1,050–1,400 rpm on the 460 hp, with peak power at 1,700–1,900 rpm. To meet Euro 6 the diesel engines use cooled exhaust gas recirculation, a diesel oxidation catalyst, a particulate filter and SCR with AdBlue injection, with an exhaust-gas heating system with its own injector on every engine except the DE11; the NGT 9 uses exhaust gas recirculation and a three-way catalytic converter without AdBlue injection or regeneration.
The documents differ on the power steps. The corporate distribution page lists the D with the DTi 8 at 250 and 280 hp and the D Wide with the DE 11 at 380 and 430 hp; the brochure and the German product pages also carry 320 hp on the D’s DTI 8 and 460 hp on the D Wide’s DE11. The German D Wide page states the emission standard as “EURO 6d”; the brochure heads each engine table “Euro 6”.
Gearboxes
The brochure’s gearbox table lists three ZF manuals — the 6-speed 6S800 for 850 Nm, the 6-speed 6S1000 for 1,050 Nm and the 9-speed 9S 1110 TO for 1,200 Nm — two 12-speed Optidriver automated manual gearboxes, the AT 2412 for 2,400 Nm and the ATO 2612 for 2,550 Nm, and two automatics, the 6-speed Allison 3200 for 1,491 Nm and the 8-speed Optishift ZF 8AP for 1,200 Nm. An automatic gearbox is standard on the D and an option on the D 4x4; the automated manual is standard on the D Wide, and the D Wide CNG has an automatic gearbox. The range poster footnotes the D’s DTI 8 at 320 hp as available only with the 8-speed automatic.
