The XCursor 13 is a 12.9-litre, six-cylinder in-line engine built by FPT Industrial, the powertrain brand of the Iveco Group, in a diesel version certified to Euro VI Step E and a natural-gas version, the XCURSOR 13 NG. FPT describes it as its first multi-fuel single base engine: “The XCURSOR 13 is FPT’s first multi-fuel single base engine designed to run on diesel, methane and, in the future, hydrogen.” FPT lists it for trucks and for buses, and Iveco’s release of 15 November 2023 puts the new xCursor13 engine at the top of the engine line-up of its new Way range.

Status as of 26 October 2026. FPT Industrial’s XCURSOR 13 and XCURSOR 13 NG product pages for trucks and buses, its CURSOR 13 truck page and its datasheet for the 338 kW truck rating were read on 26 October 2026, together with four press releases from FPT Industrial and Iveco dated 2022 to 2026.

What the engine is

FPT Industrial is the Iveco Group brand that designs and builds the engine; Iveco’s own release calls FPT Industrial IVECO’s sister brand within the Iveco Group and says the xCursor13 was developed by it. The name is written several ways. FPT’s product pages say XCURSOR 13 and XCURSOR 13 NG, its datasheet says “Model: XC13” and that the XC13 will be available in diesel and methane versions, and Iveco’s German release writes xCursor13 and xC13. The model records on this site call the diesel FPT XCursor 13 (XC13) and the gas engine FPT XCursor 13 natural gas (XC13G). FPT’s Brazilian release of 8 November 2022 presents the XC13 as the embodiment of its Cursor X concept.

The base engine is the same for every fuel. FPT’s September 2024 release says it “has been designed and engineered with multiple versions to allow maximum standardization of components, and minimum impact for easy on-vehicle installation”. The figures below are the ones FPT prints for each version.

The diesel column comes from FPT’s XCURSOR 13 pages, its datasheet for the 338 kW truck rating and its September 2024 IAA release; the gas column is FPT’s XCURSOR 13 NG pages and its release of 11 February 2026, which gives the cylinders, valves, displacement, bore and stroke and eWG turbocharger of the XCURSOR 13 NG for the IVECO S-Way LNG. The two FPT documents describe the gas engine’s fuel system differently: the 2024 release lists “Direct Injection (DI)” under a heading shared by the hydrogen and natural-gas versions, while the 2026 release names FPT’s multipoint stoichiometric combustion technology for the XCURSOR 13 NG. FPT’s XCURSOR 13 NG truck page also names “a new electric turbo control (eWG) and new EGR system”. Euro VI Step E is explained in our page on Euro 6 and Euro 7.

Fuels: diesel, methane and hydrogen

FPT’s 2024 IAA release lists the fuels as “From diesel and natural gas (including biomethane) to hydrogen and renewable fuels”. Its product pages give three: diesel, methane and, “in the future”, hydrogen. On the methane side, Iveco’s 2023 release names CNG and LNG versions of the S-Way, and FPT’s February 2026 release is about the IVECO S-Way LNG with the XCURSOR 13 NG; trucks that run on liquefied methane are covered in LNG and bio-LNG trucks.

The hydrogen applications that FPT’s 2024 release names are off-road. It says a hydrogen-powered version of the LEITWOLF snow groomer, “boasting 460 hp and 2,000 Nm”, has been in field testing with PRINOTH since 2022, and that “The off-road XCURSOR 13 hydrogen engine debuted at Agritechnica 2023, offering 520 hp”. FPT’s on-road truck and bus pages still put hydrogen in the future tense. A hydrogen engine of this kind burns hydrogen in the cylinders; the route is described in hydrogen trucks: fuel cell and hydrogen combustion.

Ratings as FPT and Iveco state them

FPT’s XCURSOR 13 truck and bus pages carry the same sentence on the diesel: “The new XCURSOR 13 offers a wide range of ratings for different applications, from 460 hp/2,300 Nm to 600 hp/2,850 Nm”. Both pages give torque of “up to 2,850 Nm @980 rpm” with the eVGT BB turbocharger and braking power of up to 530 kW. The technical specifications in FPT’s 2024 IAA release give the diesel version as:

  • Max power: 600 hp (442 kW)
  • Max torque: 2,850 Nm
  • Braking power: up to 720 hp (530 kW)
  • Emissions: Euro VI Step E

FPT’s datasheet for the 338 kW truck rating gives 338 kW (460 HP) at 1,650 rpm and 2,500 Nm at 820 rpm, with “Certification: Euro VI E”.

For the gas engine, FPT’s XCURSOR 13 NG truck page states “two ratings for different applications – 500 hp/2,200 Nm and 520 hp/2,500 Nm”, its German bus page gives the same two ratings, and both give braking power of up to 260 kW. The 2024 release gives 520 hp (382 kW) and 2,500 Nm for the version it heads “Hydrogen / Natural Gas”, and the February 2026 release gives 500 PS and 2,200 Nm for the XCURSOR 13 NG in the IVECO S-Way LNG.

Iveco gives its own figures for the Way range. Its release of 15 November 2023 gives the range’s top diesel configuration as up to 580 PS and 2,800 Nm of torque, a 500 PS variant with 2,600 Nm, and the gas version at 500 PS and 2,200 Nm. FPT’s product pages state power in hp, its datasheet in kW with hp in brackets and its 2024 release in hp with kW in brackets; Iveco’s German release uses PS. How the units and the rated speeds relate is set out in how to read a truck’s power figures. Engine braking power, the figure FPT quotes in kW for both versions, is explained in our page on retarders and engine brakes.

Generations and dates

The XCursor 13 follows the Cursor 13, which FPT still lists as a truck engine on its site. That page describes the “Cursor Series engines, delivering maximum power output from 310 to 600 HP”, and says “The Cursor family also offers two natural gas versions”. FPT’s 2022 Brazilian release describes the XC13 as the evolution of the then-current FPT Cursor 13 and as FPT Industrial’s first multi-fuel platform engine. The dates in FPT’s and Iveco’s documents are:

  • 2022: FPT’s datasheet for the 338 kW truck rating carries the mark “v09 2022”; a hydrogen-powered version of the LEITWOLF snow groomer goes into field testing with PRINOTH, as FPT’s 2024 release tells it in its XCURSOR 13 section.
  • 8 November 2022: FPT Industrial’s Brazilian release presents the new XC13 at Fenatran 2022.
  • 2023: the off-road XCURSOR 13 hydrogen engine debuts at Agritechnica 2023.
  • 15 November 2023: Iveco’s release on the new Way range, which names the S-Way and X-Way, places the new xCursor13 at the top of the range’s engine line-up, with 2,500 bar injection pressure.
  • 16 September 2024: FPT’s release for IAA Transportation 2024 says three XCURSOR 13 versions will be on show in Hanover, “dedicated to long-haul heavy trucks, heavy construction vehicles, and coaches”.
  • 11 February 2026: FPT’s release on the IVECO S-Way LNG lists the technical data of the XCURSOR 13 NG it carries.

Trucks and buses on this site with the FPT XCursor 13

Three Iveco truck ranges on this site name the XCursor 13 in their engine records, two of them in both the diesel and the natural-gas version.

The figures are those of each model’s own page and the Iveco documents it cites, not FPT’s engine-level ranges. Each record follows the engine tables for its own model, so the torque band can differ from one model to the next at the same power; the X-Way page sets out where Iveco’s documents disagree on that model’s top rating. No bus or coach on this site lists the XCursor 13 in its record, although FPT offers XCURSOR 13 and XCURSOR 13 NG bus engines.
