PACCAR MX-11 engine: displacement, ratings and generations
The PACCAR MX-11 is a 10.8-litre in-line six-cylinder diesel: its Euro 6 truck and coach ratings of 220 to 330 kW, its US EPA ratings and its stages since 2013.

The PACCAR MX-11 is a 10.8-litre six-cylinder in-line turbocharged diesel engine with intercooling. PACCAR Inc. holds the MX-11 trademark; DAF Trucks, which signs its pages “A PACCAR COMPANY”, lists the engine among its own engine developments, and DAF Components, DAF’s component-supply business, supplies it to coach and bus builders. In Europe it is a Euro 6 engine, which DAF dates to 2013, now listed at 220 to 330 kW; PACCAR’s US specification sheets give it EPA 2021 and EPA 2024 certification and 355 to 445 hp. On this site it is one of the engines of the DAF XD, XF, XG and XG+, the Irizar i6S, the Tatra Phoenix and the Temsa Maraton.
Status as of 26 October 2026. Read that day: DAF Components’ MX-11 infosheet (its file is named for model year 2025), its MX-11 truck-engine page and its MX-11 coach and bus page; DAF’s history page and its XDC and XFC product page; six DAF releases from 15 October 2015 to 29 September 2025; DAF’s alternative-fuels infosheet; and PACCAR’s EPA 2021 and EPA 2024 MX-11 specification sheets, published on Peterbilt’s site. All are documents of PACCAR or its companies.
Maker, name and layout
PACCAR’s US specification sheets state that “PACCAR MX, MX, MX-11, and MX-13 are trademarks of PACCAR Inc.” DAF’s history page names “the 12.9 litre PACCAR MX-13 engine and the 10.8 litre PACCAR MX-11 engine” among DAF’s developments in engine technology and says they meet the Euro 6 emission standards, and DAF’s Busworld 2025 release describes DAF Components as an independent supplier of “components, such as engines, axles and cabs to manufacturers of buses, coaches, specialised vehicles as well as ships all over the world”. The 12.9-litre MX-13 is a separate engine, covered in PACCAR MX-13 engine.
The engine is named by family and rating. DAF Components lists the current versions as MX-11 220, MX-11 251, MX-11 270, MX-11 300 and MX-11 330, the figure being the output in kW; DAF’s 2015 coach and bus list used MX-11 210, 240, 271, 291 and 320; and PACCAR’s US sheets mark a multi-torque rating “MT”. The name MX is older than the MX-11: DAF’s history page says that in 2005 “DAF unveiled the PACCAR MX engine”, and DAF’s 2015 release lists a 12.9-litre PACCAR MX for Euro 3, Euro 4 and Euro 5 beside the Euro 6 MX-11 and MX-13.
DAF Components gives the layout as a “Six-cylinder in-line turbocharged diesel engine with intercooling”, with exhaust gas recirculation (EGR), a diesel particulate filter (DPF) and selective catalytic reduction (SCR) “aftertreatment for Euro 6 emission levels”. How SCR and AdBlue work is covered in SCR and AdBlue explained.

Ratings as the maker states them
Euro 6 trucks: DAF Components
DAF Components’ MX-11 infosheet and its truck-engine page list five ratings. The three highest have two torque figures; the higher one, in the infosheet’s footnote, applies “in the highest gear for direct drive gearboxes and in the two highest gears for overdrive gearboxes”. The infosheet’s charts carry the labels “Multi Torque” and “ECE R24-03 (ISO 1585) EURO 6”.
| Rating | Output kW (hp) | Torque | Torque in the highest gear(s) |
|---|---|---|---|
| MX-11 220 | 220 (299) at 1,675 rpm | 1,350 Nm at 900–1,400 rpm | — |
| MX-11 251 | 251 (341) at 1,675 rpm | 1,500 Nm at 900–1,400 rpm | — |
| MX-11 270 | 270 (367) at 1,600 rpm | 1,800 Nm at 900–1,400 rpm | 1,950 Nm at 900–1,125 rpm |
| MX-11 300 | 300 (408) at 1,600 rpm | 2,000 Nm at 900–1,400 rpm | 2,150 Nm at 900–1,125 rpm |
| MX-11 330 | 330 (449) at 1,600 rpm | 2,200 Nm at 900–1,400 rpm | 2,350 Nm at 900–1,125 rpm |
The truck-engine page prints the same figures with one exception: for the MX-11 270 it gives 1900 Nm at 900–1125 rpm where the infosheet gives 1950. The page gives the emission level as “Euro 6” for the 220, 251 and 270 and as “Euro 5/6” for the 300 and 330, each with the footnote “Engines with Euro 3 or 5 emission levels have different torque and power (curve) settings.” It gives no figures for those settings. The introductory sentence of both documents names “The engines MX-11 271, 291 and 320” as those with the extra torque in the highest gears; their tables list the 270, 300 and 330 instead, and the three older names are ratings of DAF’s 2015 list.
DAF Components describes two tunings. It assigns the 220 and 251 kW engines to “urban, regional and national distribution, with solo vehicles or combinations up to 32-36 tonnes GCM”, with maximum torque over 900-1400 rpm, and the 270, 300 and 330 kW engines to “one-stop delivery types of application, with GCMs ranging from 36 to 44 tonnes”.
How kW and hp relate, and what the engine speed beside each figure means, is explained in reading truck power figures.
Coaches and buses: DAF Components
DAF Components’ coach and bus page lists the same five outputs, all at 1,600 rpm, with one torque figure each and Euro 6 for all five.
| Rating | Output | Torque |
|---|---|---|
| MX-11 220 | 220 kW/299 hp at 1,600 rpm | 1,450 Nm at 900–1,400 rpm |
| MX-11 251 | 251 kW/341 hp at 1,600 rpm | 1,650 Nm at 900–1,400 rpm |
| MX-11 270 | 270 kW/367 hp at 1,600 rpm | 1,950 Nm at 900–1,125 rpm |
| MX-11 300 | 300 kW/408 hp at 1,600 rpm | 2,150 Nm at 900–1,125 rpm |
| MX-11 330 | 330 kW/449 hp at 1,600 rpm | 2,350 Nm at 900–1,125 rpm |
The page states power “according to ISO 1585”, an idle speed of “550 +50 -25” rpm and a maximum speed during engine braking of 2100 rpm. DAF’s releases of 4 October 2023 and 29 September 2025 give the coach and bus MX-11 “with outputs from 220 kW/299 hp up to 330 kW/449 hp”.
United States: PACCAR’s EPA specification sheets
PACCAR’s specification sheets for EPA 2021 and EPA 2024 list the same seven ratings, from 355 to 445 hp and from 1,250 to 1,700 lb-ft. One is a multi-torque rating with two torque figures.
| Peak horsepower | Peak torque (lb-ft at rpm) |
|---|---|
| 445 | 1,700 at 900 |
| 430 MT | 1,450/1,650 at 900 |
| 430 | 1,650 at 900 |
| 415 | 1,550 at 900 |
| 400 | 1,450 at 900 |
| 375 | 1,350 at 900 |
| 355 | 1,250 at 900 |
The sheets mark MT as “Multi-torque rating”. The EPA 2024 sheet also gives a maximum operating weight of 110,000 lbs.

DAF’s release for the IAA Transportation 2024 of 16 September 2024 lists “PACCAR MX-11 and MX-13 engine optimizations”: new valve timing, a dual drive coolant pump and a 2-cylinder air compressor. Its release of 10 October 2024, which says that “The next chapter of the New Generation DAF is available for ordering now”, gives the valve timing as Miller and adds an updated turbo and EGR system and “Prepared for B100 FAME biodiesel”. DAF Components’ infosheet ties the Miller timing and a clutched air compressor (03150) to EU vehicles configured with option 03683, and gives a compression ratio of 19.0 to 1 for EU engines (03683) and 18.5 to 1 for non-EU engines (03670).
2025: Busworld
DAF’s release of 29 September 2025 presents a new series of PACCAR MX-11 and MX-13 engines for buses and coaches at Busworld 2025 in Brussels, 4 to 9 October 2025, again with the MX-11 at “outputs from 220 kW/299 hp up to 330 kW/449 hp”, and says the power units are based on the engines DAF developed for the New Generation DAF trucks.
United States: EPA 2021 and EPA 2024
PACCAR’s two US sheets carry the certification “EPA 2021” and “EPA 2024”, with the codes 2021MX11BSPEC and 2024MX11SPEC, and list the same seven ratings. The governed speed is 2,200 RPM on the EPA 2021 sheet and 2,100 RPM on the EPA 2024 sheet.
Fuels and emission class
DAF Components’ infosheet and truck-engine page and DAF’s launch release of 2021 describe the MX-11 as a diesel engine; none of the documents read for this page lists a natural-gas version.
- Diesel and HVO. DAF Components’ coach and bus page states that “(Bio) Diesel fuel must comply with EN-590 / EN-15940 / EN-16734 / EN-16709”. DAF’s coach and bus releases of 2023 and 2025 say the MX-11 and MX-13 also run on HVO biodiesel, and DAF’s alternative-fuels infosheet says “All DAF vehicles run on HVO”; it lists HVO under EN15940. HVO is covered in what is HVO fuel.
- Biodiesel blends. The same infosheet says “all PACCAR MX engines are also suitable for B30”.
- B100. The infosheet says “B100 can only be used in DAF’s with specific MX-13 480 B100 engines”. DAF’s release of 10 October 2024 lists “Prepared for B100 FAME biodiesel” among the MX-11 and MX-13 engine updates; none of the documents read names a B100 rating of the MX-11.
DAF Components describes the engine as “The 10.8 litre Euro 6 PACCAR MX-11 engine”; its truck-engine page lists Euro 6 and Euro 5/6 settings, as above. None of the European documents read names the Euro VI step (A to E) of a given build. The steps from Euro VI A to E and what Euro 7 adds are covered in Euro VI and Euro 7. In the United States the engine is certified to EPA 2021 and EPA 2024 on PACCAR’s sheets.
The MX Engine Brake that DAF Components lists, an integrated compression brake, is the kind described in retarders and engine braking.
