The Maraton is the two-axle coach that TEMSA builds at its plant in Adana, Türkiye, in two lengths, the Maraton 12 and the Maraton 13. Temsa calls it its flagship coach. At the press launch in Istanbul on 12 November 2015 Temsa described it as the world’s first two-axle flat-floor Super High Deck vehicle (“dünyada çift akslı ilk düz taban Super High Deck aracı”), and a Temsa release of 18 October 2019 says that “the latest generation of Maratons” entered series production in 2016. The name is older: Temsa dates the first Maraton, built on a Fuso base, to 1987.
The dimension and engine tables on this page come from Temsa’s English Maraton brochure, which the Maraton 12 and Maraton 13 pages of Temsa’s international site link and whose imprint says its information is accurate as of 06/2026; the Turkish brochure on temsa.com carries the same technical data and the same date. Both were read on 7 October 2026, together with the Maraton 12 and Maraton 13 product pages of the international site in English and Turkish and of TEMSA’s European sites in German, French, Italian, Spanish and Turkish. Temsa’s Turkish brochure printed 02/2026, which temsa.com served at the same address in May 2026 (Internet Archive capture of 15 May 2026), adds rows the June edition does not print. TEMSA France links a French brochure whose imprint dates its information 08/2022; it has its own section below. Temsa releases from 2015 to 2026, and Temsa data sheets of 11/2015 and 07/2019 kept by the Internet Archive, date the earlier engines and the history of the line.
Two models in the June 2026 brochure
The brochure prints each dimension once for both models, as a pair of figures where the two differ (“12.365 mm / 13.080 mm”, with a point as the thousands separator). They share the width, the height, the interior height and both overhangs, and differ in wheelbase, length, luggage volume, turning diameter and gross vehicle weight rating.
| Row in the brochure | Maraton 12 | Maraton 13 |
|---|---|---|
| Length | 12,365 mm | 13,080 mm |
| Wheelbase | 6,335 mm | 7,050 mm |
| Front overhang | 2,730 mm | 2,730 mm |
| Rear overhang | 3,300 mm | 3,300 mm |
| Width | 2,550 mm | 2,550 mm |
| Height (inc. A/C) | 3,900 mm | 3,900 mm |
| Floor to ceiling height | 2,000 mm | 2,000 mm |
| Luggage volume | 12 m³ | 14 m³ |
| Turning diameter | 22,400 mm | 24,090 mm |
| GVWR | 18,000 kg | 19,000 kg |
| Passenger capacity | “50/ 55”, with the note “based on country regulations” | |
By our arithmetic the overhangs and the wheelbase add up to each length: 2,730 + 6,335 + 3,300 = 12,365 mm and 2,730 + 7,050 + 3,300 = 13,080 mm. The Maraton 13 is 715 mm longer, and all 715 mm are wheelbase. The brochure prints no unladen weight. What these rows mean on a coach data sheet is set out in how a coach specification sheet is read.
Temsa’s product pages give the number of seats as 53+1+1 for the Maraton 12 and 57+1+1 for the Maraton 13; the German Maraton 12 page prints 53+1+1+1. The Turkish brochure of 02/2026 gave 53+1+1 for the Maraton 12 and 41+1+1 for the Maraton 13, and Temsa’s Turkish site lists the longer model at the address maraton-13-vip. The brochure describes a flat floor and seating in “2+1 VIP or 2+2 standard layouts”.
Temsa’s documents differ on the Maraton 13’s gross vehicle weight: 19,000 kg in the June 2026 brochure and on the English and Turkish product pages, 18,000 kg on the German, French, Italian and Spanish product pages and in the Turkish brochure of 02/2026. The French and Spanish Maraton 13 pages give 12 m³ of luggage space where the brochure gives 14 m³.
Engine
The brochure lists the engine under “Standard equipments” in two columns, each with its own gearbox.
| Row | First column | Second column |
|---|---|---|
| Engine, power | DAF MX11, 300 kW / 408 HP at 1,600 rpm | DAF MX11, 330 kW / 449 HP at 1,600 rpm |
| Torque | 2,100 Nm at 900–1,125 rpm | 2,300 Nm at 900–1,125 rpm |
| Transmission | ZF Ecoshift (300 kW), manual | ZF Traxon (330 kW), automated |
Temsa’s product pages describe the engine as a four-stroke, water-cooled, direct-injection diesel, a six-cylinder in-line engine of 10,800 cc, and the English Maraton 13 page names it “Euro 6 DAF MX11-300kW”. The Turkish brochure of 02/2026 adds a bore and stroke of 123 x 152 mm and marks the 330 kW engine “Otomatik şanzıman” (automatic gearbox) and the 300 kW engine “Manuel şanzıman” (manual gearbox). Temsa’s documents print the emission class as Euro 6 (“E6”) without a sub-stage; the stages are set out in Euro 6 and Euro 7 explained.
At Busworld Europe in Brussels in October 2025 Temsa said: “From 2026, the model will also feature an upgraded DAF MX-11 engine and ZF Traxon transmission, offering greater torque, smoother shifting, and up to 3% improved fuel economy.” Temsa’s data sheet of 07/2019 had listed one engine, “E6 DAF MX11-320kW”, at 320 kW (432 HP) at 1,700 rpm with 2,100 Nm at 1,000–1,450 rpm.
The product pages, read on 7 October 2026, do not all print the brochure’s figures. The English pages of both models, and the Turkish Maraton 13 page of the international site, give 408 hp at 1,600 rpm and 2,100 Nm at 900–1,125 rpm. The Maraton 12 pages in Turkish, French, Italian and Spanish give 320 kW (432 HP) at 1,700 rpm and 2,100 Nm at 1,000–1,450 rpm, the figures of the 07/2019 data sheet, while the German Maraton 12 page gives 300 kW (408 PS) at 1,600 rpm. The Maraton 13 pages in German, French, Italian and Spanish and on the European Turkish site give 408 HP at 1,600 rpm with 2,100 Nm at 1,000–1,450 rpm.
Gearboxes, axles, suspension and brakes
The product pages give the ZF Ecoshift manual gearbox 6 forward gears and 1 reverse and the ZF Traxon automated gearbox 12 forward gears and 1 reverse. In the Turkish brochure of 02/2026 the ZF manual (6 + 1) was the standard gearbox (“Model (Standart)”) and the ZF automatic (12 + 1) the option (“Model (Opsiyonel)”). How a gearbox of the Traxon kind shifts is covered in automated manual transmissions.
| Row | Front axle | Rear axle |
|---|---|---|
| Type | ZF RL75E, independent | ZF A133, rigid |
| Capacity | 7,500 kg | 11,500 kg |
| Ratio | – | 2.76 (Maraton 12); “2.00/ 2.76” (Maraton 13) |
The brochure lists “Independent Suspension with Air Bags and Shock Absorbers” and “Full Body Lifting and Kneeling”, and its text says that the ECAS system, together with the independent front suspension, provides “a smooth and stable ride regardless of road conditions”. Steering is hydraulic, with a steering wheel that adjusts for tilt and reach (“Steering Wheel Tilt and Telescopic”). The Turkish brochure of 02/2026 gives an approach and departure angle of 8° (“Yaklaşım Açısı/Ayrılım Açısı”), the 07/2019 data sheet an approach angle of 8°.
Under “Safety” the brochure lists a service brake, a parking brake, an engine brake and an exhaust valve brake, with ABS, ASR and EBS. It names no retarder; the French brochure of 08/2022 lists an intarder coupled to the brake pedal (“Couplage intarder à la pédale de frein”), and Temsa’s brochure of 11/2015 an intarder integrated in the gearbox (“Şanzımana entegre intarder”). How these brakes share the work is set out in retarders and engine braking. The tyres are 295/80 R22.5 on Alcoa Dura-Bright rims; the product pages give the rim size as 22.5 x 8.25, and several of the Turkish, French, Italian and Spanish pages describe the tyres as tubeless.
Fuel, AdBlue and electrics
The fuel tank holds 583 litres and the urea (AdBlue) tank 50 litres; the Turkish product pages add a heated water-separating filter to the fuel row (“583 L Isıtmalı su ayırıcı filtre”). The electrical system is 24 volt, a Continental multiplex system with a digital cluster, with two 12 V batteries of 225 Ah. The lighting is xenon headlights, daytime running lights and fog lights, with exterior and interior lighting. The brochure lists real-time diagnostics of the engine, the transmission, the multiplex system and the air conditioning; the Turkish brochure adds the brakes (“Motor, Şanzıman, Multiplex, Fren ve Klima Sistemi”). An air horn is listed with the general data.
Passenger area, driver’s area and climate
The equipment column of the brochure lists rear windows and double-glazed side windows; reclining seats with leather headrest, armrest, footrest, magazine net and tray table; USB sockets of types A and C at the passenger seats; passenger modules with adjustable air vents, reading lights and a speaker; and two electrically operated roof hatches as emergency exits. Heating and cooling are a driver’s defroster, roof cooling and roof and convector heating, with a maximum cooling capacity of 133,000 BTU and a maximum heating capacity of 212,000 BTU.
For the driver it lists a Grammer or ISRI seat with waist support, a full LCD digital cluster with a rear view (“Full LCD Digital Cluster, Rear View”), a bottle cooler in the dashboard, a 2-DIN touchscreen audio and video system (AM/FM/DVD/MP3/BT) and a swan microphone at the driver’s seat (“Swan Driver Microphone in Driver Seat”). The brochure’s text describes “a spacious cockpit featuring an ergonomic control panel and digital dashboard”.
Listed as options are a WC with a 35-litre water tank at the middle door, leather and fabric alternatives for the seats, a camera mirror, a trailer hook, a destination plate, a heated windscreen, a monitor, an air-conditioning defroster, a kitchen unit, a sleeping compartment and exterior manoeuvring and assistant lighting. The Turkish brochure of June 2026 lists the kitchen unit (“Mutfak Ünitesi”) among the interior equipment rather than the options, lists the swan microphone at the driver’s seat (“Sürücü Koltuğu Kuğu Mikrofon”) among the options, and does not describe the seats as reclining.
For the driver’s rest, the brochure’s text describes “the spacious, ergonomically designed sleeping cabin with its own dedicated air conditioning system”, while its equipment page lists the sleeping compartment as an option; the Turkish brochure of 02/2026 marked “Uyku Kabini w/AC” (sleeping cabin with air conditioning) standard on both models. The June 2026 brochure names a middle door in its WC row and prints no door count; the French brochure of 08/2022 lists a pneumatic single-leaf front door with double glazing and a pneumatic single-leaf centre door.
Safety and driver assistance
The brochure’s safety page shows eleven systems: adaptive cruise control (ACC), the lane departure warning system (LDWS), the advanced emergency braking system (AEBS), pedestrian and cyclist collision warning (MOIS), driver drowsiness and attention warning (DDAW), intelligent speed assistance (ISA), the blind spot information system (BSIS), the reversing information system (REIS), tyre pressure monitoring (TPMS), the emergency stop signal (ESS) and alcohol interlock installation facilitation (AIIF). Every one of them except AEBS carries an asterisk, which a footnote explains: “Standard for GSR regions, optional for non-GSR regions”. The Turkish brochure shows the same eleven without the asterisk or the footnote. The safety list on the specification page names the same systems apart from ACC and AIIF and adds “Cyber Security Compliance”. Which of these systems the EU General Safety Regulation requires, and from when, is set out in mandatory driver assistance systems.
The Turkish brochure of 02/2026 marked as standard on both models ESP, ACC, LDWS, BSIS, DDAW, MOIS, REIS, ESS and tyre pressure monitoring, “ISA (Akıllı Hız Destek Sitemi Altyapısı)” (intelligent speed assistance infrastructure), “R155 (Siber Güvenlik)” (cyber security), preparation for an alcohol meter (“Alkolmetre Hazırlığı”), a fire warning system in the engine compartment, emergency hammers, a fire extinguisher, a low-voltage warning and a mechanical battery isolator switch; the alcohol meter itself (“Alkolmetre”) was an option.
The brochure says that “When prevention isn’t enough, Maraton’s high-strength construction helps protect passengers by maintaining compartment integrity.” At the 2015 launch Temsa said that the R66-02 regulation would become standard on all vehicles in the coming period and that it was already offering it on the Maraton and Maraton VIP without increasing the vehicle’s weight. What that rollover regulation asks of a coach is in rollover strength.
TEMSA France brochure, 08/2022
The French brochure that TEMSA France’s Maraton pages link (file created 12 March 2024) dates its information 08/2022. It describes one engine, the “DAF MX11-330 EURO6” of 10,800 cc at 330 kW (449 CV) at 1,600 rpm with 2,300 Nm, and a “ZF TRAXON 12TX2411 INT” gearbox.
