The XG is the New Generation DAF long-haul truck that shares the 2,690 mm cab length of the XG+, where the XF has a 2,360 mm cab. DAF introduced the XG together with the New Generation XF and XG+ on 9 June 2021, and series production of the New Generation began in Eindhoven on 4 November 2021. This page covers the diesel XG. It is built from DAF Trucks Ltd’s GB specification sheets, edition 202545A of July 2025, DAF UK’s New Generation page, DAF’s launch release and press kit of 9 June 2021, DAF’s New Generation brochure HQ-EN-0824 of August 2024, the DAF Components engine infosheets for model year 2025, and DAF press releases from November 2021 to the IAA Transportation show of September 2026. Weights and configurations are GB figures; DAF’s sheets say the availability and specification may differ per country.
The XG+, with the same cab length and a higher roof, has its own page, DAF XG+; the DAF XF page covers the shorter-cab XF and its earlier generations from 1997, and the battery-electric versions are on the DAF XG and XG+ Electric page.
Overview
DAF’s launch press kit of 9 June 2021 says that “in addition to the XF, DAF is introducing the XG and XG+, creating a new top class market segment, which takes maximum benefit from the new masses and dimensions regulations” of the EU (the rules are covered in aerodynamic cabs and length rules). Both cabs have a front elongated by 160 mm and “no less than 330 mm extra length at the rear of the cab”; their cab datum is 125 mm higher than the New Generation XF’s, and DAF describes a semi-flat floor with access by three steps. DAF’s 2024 brochure titles its XG section “In a league of its own” and calls the XG “the world’s first truck to leverage new EU regulations on masses & dimensions”. None of the DAF documents opened names an earlier model called XG.

XG, XG+ and XF in DAF’s figures
DAF UK’s New Generation page sets the three cabs side by side:
| Model | Cab length | Standing height | Cab volume |
|---|---|---|---|
| XF | 2,360 mm | 1,900–2,075 mm | 9.73 m³ |
| XG | 2,690 mm | 2,025–2,075 mm | 11.85 m³ |
| XG+ | 2,690 mm | 2,145–2,195 mm | 12.50 m³ |
DAF’s launch release of 9 June 2021 gave other standing heights: “from no less than 1,980 to 2,105 mm” for the XG and “up to an impressive 2,220 mm” for the XG+.
On DAF UK’s July 2025 sheets the XG and XG+ come in the same 18 configurations, with the same engine versions and the same 2,690 mm long, 2,500 mm wide cab with three entrance steps. Their standard specifications differ as follows:
| Item | XG sheets | XG+ sheets |
|---|---|---|
| Cab suspension | Mechanical | Air |
| Lights | LED headlights; front fog lights an option | LED head, cornering and fog lights |
| Interior decoration | Hexagon | Argenta |
| Driver’s seat | Comfort Air, with arm rest | Luxury Air, with arm rests on both sides |
| Co-driver’s seat | Cinema seat with fabric cover | Cinema seat with table, fabric cover |
| Centre storage | Storage compartment; with drawer an option | Storage compartment with drawer |
| Upper bunk | Option | Standard |
| Luggage carrier | Standard | Not listed |
| Climate | Automatic temperature control and air conditioning; automatic cab climate control an option | Automatic cab climate control |
| Roof hatch | None | Electrically controlled |
| 24 V supply | 110 A or 130 A alternator, two 230 Ah batteries | 130 A alternator, two 210 Ah AGM batteries |
| Cab height, FA 4x2 Low Deck rigid | 2.96 m | 3.00 m |
DAF’s FA 4x2 rigid sheets define that cab height as measured “from frame member to closed cabin roof hatch”. The unladen weights differ too: at the same 4.00 m wheelbase, the FT 4x2 tractor sheet gives 7,807 kg for the XG and 7,865 kg for the XG+, and at 4.65 m the FTM 8x4 tractor sheet gives 11,232 kg and 11,290 kg. On the FTG 6x2 tractor the XG sheet lists a 2.21 rear-axle ratio, the XG+ sheet 2.38.
DAF’s 2021 press kit gives the XG and XG+ some features together: bunks 2,220 mm long “with no less than 800 mm of width over the complete length in the XG and XG+” (the 2024 brochure speaks of “extra-wide (80 cm) XG and XG+ beds”), optional swivel driver’s and co-driver’s seats, a drawer in the lower part of the dashboard, optional ambient lighting with 15 LED lights and light strips, and, with a redesigned rear-axle suspension and a new fifth-wheel position, “an extended wheelbase (4,000 mm) for the XG and XG+”. On two items the 2021 documents and the July 2025 UK sheets read differently. The launch release of 9 June 2021 calls the LED Skylights “standard on the XG and XG+”, while the XG sheets list “LED Skylights; aux. LED lights on cab rf, prepared” as an option, and the XG+ sheets list the same item as an option under their own code. The press kit of the same date names only the XG+ for the new fully integrated Park Airco, “available as an option on the XG+”, while the XG sheets list integrated park air conditioning as an option on the XG as well.
Cab
DAF’s sheets describe the XG cab as a “luxurious cab for XG series, with unrivalled aerodynamics”, with “the huge and deep frontscreen, curved at the sides combined with large side windows”. On all 18 sheets it is 2,690 mm long and 2,500 mm wide, with three entrance steps, mechanical cab suspension, LED headlights and a front-view mirror. The press kit gives the New Generation XF, XG and XG+ a windscreen of 2.3 m². How cab sizes and roof heights are named across makers is covered in truck cabs explained.
Standard interior on all 18 XG sheets: “Exclusive” trim colour, “Plateau” dashboard finish, “Hexagon” decoration, a Comfort Air driver’s seat with arm rest, a co-driver’s cinema seat with fabric cover, a dashboard table, a centre storage compartment, a luggage carrier, automatic temperature control with air conditioning and an auxiliary water-type cab heater; the sheets list “No roof hatch”. Options on every XG sheet include a leather steering wheel, a “Vision” dashboard finish, “Argenta” or “Natura” decoration, Luxury Air, Super Air and Xtra Leather Air driver’s seats, a swivel seat base, a centre storage compartment with drawer, two drawers, a refrigerator and drawer or two refrigerators, several mattresses including one for the DAF Relax Bed, an upper bunk, automatic cab climate control and integrated park air conditioning. Exterior options include front fog lights, “LED Skylights; aux. LED lights on cab rf, prepared”, an external sun visor, DAF Corner View and a windscreen with solar control foil. Standard paint is Crystal White on a grey chassis.
DAF’s 2024 brochure describes a central 12-inch screen operated from the steering wheel and an additional 10-inch display for phone mirroring, infotainment and navigation; on the sheets the infotainment systems are options. At IAA Transportation 2026 DAF said the XG and XG+ “can now be ordered with a 90 cm wide Relax Bed”, and presented a rear-wall storage unit with three compartments, up to 290 litres in the XG and XG+.
Engines
Two PACCAR six-cylinder diesel families are offered, the 10.8-litre MX-11 and the 12.9-litre MX-13. The sheets name the four versions XG 430, 450, 480 and 530:
| Version | Engine | Power | Peak torque, top gear(s) | Torque, other gears |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| XG 450 | MX-11 | 330 kW (449 hp) at 1,600 rpm | 2,350 Nm at 900–1,125 rpm | 2,200 Nm at 900–1,400 rpm |
| XG 430 | MX-13 | 315 kW (428 hp) at 1,600 rpm | 2,300 Nm at 900–1,125 rpm | 2,150 Nm at 900–1,365 rpm |
| XG 480 | MX-13 | 355 kW (483 hp) at 1,600 rpm | 2,500 Nm at 900–1,125 rpm | 2,350 Nm at 900–1,365 rpm |
| XG 530 | MX-13 | 390 kW (530 hp) at 1,675 rpm | 2,700 Nm at 900–1,460 rpm | 2,550 Nm at 900–1,425 rpm |
DAF’s sheets call both engines “multi torque”. The DAF Components infosheets give the higher figure in the highest gear with a direct-drive gearbox and in the two highest gears with an overdrive gearbox; DAF’s 2021 press kit gives the 390 kW version 2,550 Nm “in every lower gear” and 2,700 Nm in top gear. How a quoted power or torque figure is measured is explained in reading truck power figures.
The XG 450, the 330 kW MX-11, is the standard engine on 17 of the 18 sheets, each of which lists all four versions. The FTM 8x4 tractor sheet is headed XG 430 and lists only the three MX-13 versions. DAF Components also lists the MX-11 at 220, 251, 270 and 300 kW; no XG sheet offers those.
Construction, from the DAF Components infosheets: in-line six-cylinder, turbocharged and intercooled, with exhaust gas recirculation, a diesel particulate filter and SCR for Euro 6; a variable-geometry turbocharger; common-rail injection with two high-pressure pump units in the block, at up to 2,500 bar. The MX-11 has a 123 × 152 mm bore and stroke and a compression ratio of 19.0:1 (EU) or 18.5:1 (non-EU); the MX-13 has a 130 × 162 mm bore and stroke and a compression ratio of 19.4:1 (MY25) or 18.5:1 (MY24). The MX Engine Brake is a hydraulically operated compression brake on the MX-11 and a compression release brake controlled through the VTG and a back-pressure valve on the MX-13. DAF’s sheets state “Euro 6” with no sub-step.
By DAF’s account, the 2021 engines brought torque increases of 50 to 100 Nm in direct-drive top gear and 10–15 kg less engine weight; the 10 October 2024 update added valve timing on the Miller principle, a dual-drive coolant pump and a two-cylinder clutched air compressor, and prepared the engines for B100. In April 2025 DAF made a B100 version of the MX-13 at 355 kW available for the XF, XG and XG+, and DAF says all its trucks with a combustion engine are HVO-compatible.
Transmission
Every XG has a 12-speed TraXon automated gearbox, which DAF fits as standard across the XF, XG and XG+. Seventeen sheets use the direct-drive 12TX2210, ratio 16.69–1.00; the FTM 8x4 tractor uses the overdrive 12TX2610, ratio 12.92–0.77. Overdrive is an option on the FT, FTS, FTR, FTN and FTT tractors and the FA, FAS, FAR, FAN and FAW rigids (not on the five Low Deck sheets, the FTG or the FTP); direct drive is an option on the FTM. A ZF Intarder is offered on all 18 sheets. ASR is listed as standard on the nine tractor sheets, and the FAW 8x4 rigid sheet offers a “No ASR” option.
Standard rear-axle ratios are 2.38 on the 4x2 configurations and most 6x2 configurations, 2.21 on the FTR and FTG tractors, 2.83 on the FTT tractor and FAW rigid, and 3.46 on the FTM tractor. DAF’s release of 10 October 2024 added a 2.64:1 ratio to the SR1344 rear axle and said the 2.05:1 ratio could be used with 315/70R22.5 tyres on 4x2 tractors with every engine, giving 950 rpm instead of 1,030 at 85 km/h; neither is the standard ratio on any XG sheet. What a final-drive ratio does is set out in axle ratios and final drive explained.
Axles, suspension and brakes
The standard front axle is an 8.00 t parabolic-sprung 163N axle on 14 sheets, the FT Low Deck tractor among them; the four Low Deck rigids (FA, FAS, FAR and FAN) have an 8.00 t air-sprung 161N front axle. Options, depending on configuration, are 7.50 t (FT 4x2, FTG, FTP), 9.00 t or 10.00 t front axles and air front springs. Rear axles and suspension on the sheets:
- Single drive axle, SR1344 with air suspension: 13.00 t on the FT, FTS, FTN, FA, FAS and FAN; 12.00 t on the FTR, FTP and FAR; 12.10 t on the FTG; 11.50 t on the five Low Deck sheets. An SR1347 axle is offered on every single-drive sheet and an HR1356 on the FT, FTS, FTR, FTN, FA, FAS, FAR and FAN.
- Trailing or pusher axle: a 10.0 t trailing axle on the FTS and FAS (rear group 20.00 t), 7.5 t on the FTR and FAR (19.50 t) and 8.0 t on the FTN and FAN (20.00 t), liftable on these sheets; on the Low Deck FAS, FAR and FAN the same axles with rear groups of 20.00, 19.00 and 19.50 t and no lifting device. The FTG and FTP tractors have a non-steered leading (pusher) axle with a lifting device and rear groups of 18.60 t and 16.60 t.
- Driven tandems: 10.50 + 10.50 t (21.00 t, air, SR1360T, no lifting device) on the FTT 6x4; 13.00 + 13.00 t, air-sprung, on the FTM 8x4 (HR1670T, with a lifting device) and the FAW 8x4 (SR1360T, with an 8.0 t trailing axle and a lifting device), whose sheets both give the rear a rating of 34.00 t.
The MX Engine Brake is standard on 17 sheets; the FAW 8x4 rigid has an exhaust brake. Brakes are ventilated discs front and rear with EBS-controlled dual air circuits and an engine-driven, water-cooled compressor; the FTM 8x4 tractor has drum brakes on the rear tandem, and the FA, FAS, FAR, FAN and FAW rigid sheets offer a driven rear axle with drum brakes as an option. Driven-axle tyres are 315/70R22.5 on most sheets, 315/60R22.5 on the five Low Deck sheets and 315/80R22.5 on the FTM 8x4. The layout codes are decoded in axle configurations explained.
Configurations, dimensions and weights
DAF UK lists nine tractor and nine rigid sheets for the XG. GVM and GCM are printed on each sheet “in conformity with registration documents”: 18,000 / 44,000 kg on the 4x2 sheets, 26,000 / 44,000 kg on most 6x2 and 6x4 sheets, 23,900 / 44,000 kg on the FTP, 25,700 / 44,000 kg on the FAS Low Deck and 31,000 / 44,000 kg on the two 8x4 sheets. Each sheet’s last page gives the unladen weight and the gross carrying capacity for each wheelbase it lists, with turning circles; the sheet-variant table on this page lists those wheelbases with their unladen weights. DAF calculates the weights with standard specification items only, the quantity of fuel and AdBlue shown above and a 90 kg driver, at a tolerance of ±3%, and notes that changing the specification can have a major impact on vehicle weight. The FT 4x2 tractor turns in 14.01 m between kerbs and 15.41 m between walls, the FTM 8x4 tractor in 15.71 m and 17.13 m; every sheet gives an overall width at the rear of 2.48 m.
Tanks and electrical supply
The standard aluminium fuel tank is 765 litres on the FT 4x2 tractor, 790 litres on the FT Low Deck, 510 litres on the FTS, FTR, FTN and FTP, 400 litres on the FTG, FTT and FTM, 450 litres on the three Low Deck 6x2 rigids and 340 litres on the other rigids; the AdBlue tank is 85 litres on the tractors and 45 litres on the rigids. Fuel-tank materials and sizes are listed as options. The 24 V system has a 110 A alternator, or a 130 A one on the FTN, FTM, FAN, FAN Low Deck and FAW, with two 230 Ah batteries on every sheet; a 130 A (where 110 A is standard) or 150 A alternator and two 210 Ah AGM batteries are offered as options.
Safety and driver-assistance systems
Standard on all 18 sheets: DAF drowsiness detection, Lane Departure Warning System, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and an engine immobiliser, with Adaptive Cruise Control including Forward Collision Warning and the Advanced Emergency Braking System (AEBS-3), and DAF’s Driver Performance Assistant. DAF’s release of 10 October 2024 made the DAF Digital Vision System (cameras in place of the main and wide-angle mirrors), Predictive Cruise Control and low-rolling-resistance tyres standard on 4x2 and 6x2 versions; every 4x2 and 6x2 sheet lists “No DAF Digital Vision System” as an option, and the FTT, FTM and FAW sheets list the DAF Digital Vision System and Predictive Cruise Control as options. Other options include a driver airbag with two seat-belt tensioners, DAF drowsiness and distraction detection, “No Driver State Monitoring”, “No DAF Side/Turn Assist” and EC ADR safety regulations, the last on every sheet except the FTM 8x4.
DAF’s launch press kit says AEBS-3 can provide up to full autonomous emergency braking for stationary and moving vehicles from a speed of up to 80 km/h, and describes the Programmed Cab Displacement System (ProCaDis), which allows 400 mm of controlled cab displacement on the chassis in an accident. DAF’s 2024 brochure adds the Controlled Steering Column Deformation System (CoDeS) and says the latest XF, XG and XG+ models have a 3-star rating under London’s Direct Vision Standard. DAF’s IAA 2026 release lists DAF Drowsiness and Distraction Detection, which warns when the driver’s eyes are off the road ahead for longer than 6 seconds, among its new features.
Equipment and options
Standard on the sheets: PACCAR Connect, a Stoneridge G2V2A digital tachograph and a speed limiter set to 85/90 km/h; DAF’s 2024 release gives every New Generation truck a 10-year PACCAR Connect subscription. Most tractors have a JOST JSK36DV pressed-steel fifth wheel (205+40 mm), with lead-up ramps on the FT 4x2, FTG and FTP; the FT Low Deck has a JOST JSK42 cast-iron one (150+40 mm) and the FTR a JOST JSK42 cast-iron one (185+40 mm). The rigids have a drawbar cross member rated D=13.7, with a 2x7-pin electric connection, or 1x15 pins on the FAW. “Long Combination Vehicle (LCV)” is listed among the driveline options on every sheet except the FTM 8x4, power take-offs are an option on every sheet, and the sheets name three option packages without listing their contents: Safety pack, Executive Pack XG/XG+ and Climate Pack.
Additions shown at IAA 2026
DAF’s release of 14 September 2026 lists “new axle configurations for XD, XF, XG and XG+ diesel versions”. Of the diesel additions it describes, it names the XG for the car-transporter chassis: 4x2 and 6x2 chassis with the wheel suspension lowered by 4 cm and 22.5-inch wheels with low-profile tyres, for a chassis height of 83 cm within a legal vehicle height of 4 metres, “available as XD, XF, XG and XG+”. The release attributes its new five-axle 10x4 rigid, at a technical GVW of up to 54 tonnes, to the XD and XF. It gives no order or production date, and no DAF UK sheet lists these versions yet. The same release presented the new XG and XG+ Electric.
Source notes
Weights are those of DAF Trucks Ltd’s GB specification sheets for the XG, edition 202545A of July 2025, which give GVM and GCM “in conformity with registration documents”; the same sheets also give chassis-related technical GVMs and driveline-related GCMs, for example 41,000 kg and 58,000 kg on the FTM 8x4 tractor. The kerb weights in the sheet table are DAF’s unladen weights, calculated with standard specification items only, the fuel and AdBlue quantity stated on each sheet and a 90 kg driver, at a tolerance of ±3%. No rated speed is shown for the MX-13, rated at 1,600 rpm at 315 and 355 kW and at 1,675 rpm at 390 kW. The peak torque figures apply in the highest gear with a direct-drive gearbox and in the two highest gears with an overdrive gearbox; in the other gears DAF gives 2,200 Nm for the MX-11 and 2,150 to 2,550 Nm for the MX-13.
