The Travego is the touring coach that Mercedes-Benz Türk A.Ş. builds at its Hoşdere bus plant near Istanbul. Mercedes-Benz Buses’ international site describes it as “our high-end coach for long-distance travel in Turkey” and adds that “This model is available exclusively in Turkey”; Mercedes-Benz Türk’s own model page calls it the brand’s flagship (“amiral gemisi”). Mercedes-Benz Türk’s release of 13 August 2018 says the Travego 15 SHD was completely renewed in 2016, and the maker’s current data sheet lists two models, the Travego 15 SHD and the Travego 16 SHD 2+1.
The specification tables on this page come from the maker’s technical and equipment sheet, “TRAVEGO Teknik ve Donanım Özellikleri”, which Mercedes-Benz Türk dates January 2026 (“Ocak/2026”) and links from its Turkish model page; both were read on 6 October 2026. On its equipment pages the sheet marks each item ● or ○ for each of the two models, which it explains as standard and optional, and “-” where a model does not have it; this page writes standard, optional and not offered. Mercedes-Benz Türk’s press releases of 13 August 2018, 27 December 2018, 4 April 2022, 21 November 2024 and 26 February 2025 supply the dates and the earlier figures the sheet does not carry, the Turkish model page describes the systems, and entries in the Mercedes-Benz Classic archive date the earlier generations. The sheet writes figures the Turkish way, 12.295 mm and 3,583; this page writes 12,295 mm and 3.583. English renderings of the Turkish rows are ours.
Two models on the January 2026 sheet
The sheet prints one width for both models, and its two side-view drawings give them the same height and the same overhangs. They differ in wheelbase, in interior height and in seating.
| Row on the sheet | Travego 15 SHD | Travego 16 SHD 2+1 |
|---|---|---|
| Length | 12,295 mm | 13,115 mm |
| Wheelbase | 6,090 mm | 6,910 mm |
| Front overhang | 2,890 mm | 2,890 mm |
| Rear overhang | 3,315 mm | 3,315 mm |
| Width | 2,550 mm | 2,550 mm |
| Height (“Yükseklik”) | 3,990 mm | 3,990 mm |
| Interior height (“İç Yükseklik”) | 2,100 mm | 1,950 mm |
| Seat layout | 2+2 | 2+1 |
| Seating, standard | 46+1+1 | 41+1+1 |
| Seating, optional | 42+1+1 | 35+1+1 or 38+1+1 |
| Toilet | optional | not offered |
By our arithmetic the overhangs and the wheelbase reproduce each length exactly: 2,890 + 6,090 + 3,315 = 12,295 mm and 2,890 + 6,910 + 3,315 = 13,115 mm. The 16 SHD 2+1 is 820 mm longer, and all 820 mm are wheelbase. The sheet prints no turning circle, no luggage volume, no unladen weight and no gross vehicle weight. What these rows mean on a coach data sheet is set out in how a coach specification sheet is read.
Mercedes-Benz Türk’s release of 13 August 2018 listed three models in two lengths, all 3.99 m high: the Travego 15 SHD with 2+2 seating for 46 passengers at 12.3 m, a Travego 16 SHD with 2+2 seating for 50 passengers at 13.1 m, and the Travego 16 SHD 2+1 for 41 passengers at 13.1 m. The January 2026 sheet carries no 16 SHD with 2+2 seating. The same release gave usable luggage volumes of 10.7 m³ for the 15 SHD and 14.0 m³ for the 16 SHD models, and said that the 16 SHD models have a flat floor, unlike the podium floor (“podest yapısı”) of the 15 SHD.
The lengths, wheelbases and overhangs are the figures Mercedes-Benz prints for the two-axle Tourismo and Tourismo M/2 on its international facts sheet (footer 09/2026): 12,295 and 13,115 mm long on 6,090 and 6,910 mm wheelbases, with overhangs of 2,890 and 3,315 mm, and 2,550 mm wide. That sheet gives every Tourismo a height of 3,680 mm; the Travego’s 3,990 mm is 310 mm more, by our subtraction.
Engine
The sheet lists one engine, standard on both models: the Mercedes-Benz OM 470, a vertical in-line six-cylinder of 10,677 cm³, which the model page calls a 10.7-litre unit. Its rows read 335 kW (456 PS) at 1,600 rpm and 2,200 Nm at 1,100 rpm, and the engine type row is labelled Euro 6. The Tourismo’s facts sheet names the same OM 470.
Mercedes-Benz Türk’s release of 4 April 2022 dates a change of sub-stage: in the last quarter of 2021 the emission level of Mercedes-Benz engines was raised from Euro VI-D to Euro VI-E, and the engines meeting Euro VI-E use a single diesel particulate filter in place of two. The January 2026 sheet prints Euro 6 without a sub-stage; the specification grid above shows the release’s Euro VI E. The steps are set out in Euro 6 and Euro 7 explained.
The Turkish model page lists the engine’s injection and exhaust technology: common-rail injection, exhaust-gas recirculation (EGR) that is switched in when needed, an oxidation catalyst, a particulate filter and SCR with AdBlue injection. It also gives service figures for coach use: the first replacement of the diesel particulate filter after 360,000 km, and other maintenance intervals of 240,000 km. The release of 13 August 2018 gave a long maintenance interval of 60,000 km (“60.000 km olan uzun bakım aralığı”); neither document says whether the two figures describe the same service.
In that 2018 release the 15 SHD had 315 kW (428 PS) and the 16 SHD models 335 kW (456 PS), from an OM 470 FE, which the release glosses as “Yakıt Verimliliği Paketi” (fuel efficiency package). On the January 2026 sheet both models have 335 kW.
Gearbox, retarder and axles
The Mercedes-Benz GO 250-8 PowerShift, which the sheet calls an automated gearbox (“Otomatikleştirilmiş”), is standard on both models, with 8+1 gears and a maximum input torque of 2,500 Nm. The Mercedes-Benz GO 230-6 manual gearbox is the option. The release of 13 August 2018 gave the reverse arrangement: a GO 210-6 manual on the 15 SHD and a GO 230-6 manual on the 16 SHD models as standard, and the GO 250-8 PowerShift on all models as an option. How a gearbox of this kind shifts is covered in automated manual transmissions.
A water retarder integrated in the gearbox (“Şanzımana Entegre Sulu Retarder”) is standard, with a switch in the cockpit to cut it out. The release of 13 August 2018, which described the water retarder as integrated with the engine, said that it does away with retarder oil. The continuous braking limiter (DBL), also standard, watches the permitted maximum speed on descents: the model page says it first cuts the fuel supply to the cylinders and, if that is not enough, brings in the retarder.
| Row | Front axle | Rear axle |
|---|---|---|
| Type | independent suspension (“Bağımsız askılı aks”) | rigid axle (“Sabit aks”) |
| Suspension | 2 air bellows, 2 shock absorbers, anti-roll bar | 4 air bellows, 4 shock absorbers, anti-roll bar |
| Technical capacity | 7,500 kg | 12,600 kg |
| Ratio | – | 3.583 |
The two technical capacities add up to 20,100 kg (our sum); the sheet prints no gross vehicle weight for either model and no wheel formula. Electronic level control (ENR), kneeling, a body raising and lowering system, automatic lowering of the body at high speed and central lubrication of the front axle are standard on both; the April 2022 release says the kneeling system lowers the right-hand side by about 5 cm. The tyres are 295/80 R 22.5 Michelin X Coach Z on aluminium alloy wheels, with tyre pressure monitoring (TPM).
Fuel, AdBlue and batteries
A 480-litre fuel tank is standard and an additional tank of 310 litres optional; the AdBlue tank holds 40 litres as standard or 53 litres as an option. A water-separating fuel filter, an additional electrically heated one and an electronic fuel pump (EKP) are standard. The batteries are AGM units, 2 x 220 Ah, with an energy-management system built on an intelligent battery sensor (IBS). Mercedes-Benz Türk’s release of 4 April 2022 said that 240 Ah batteries had become standard on all Travego and Tourismo models; neither that release nor the January 2026 sheet explains the difference.
Seats, kitchen and passenger area
The 15 SHD has 2+2 seating, 46+1+1 as standard or 42+1+1 as an option, with Ambassador seats as standard and Luxline seats as an option. The 16 SHD 2+1 has 2+1 seating, 41+1+1 as standard or 35+1+1 or 38+1+1 as options, with Ambassador (2+1) seats on a seat-rail system and, as standard, wall-side armrests, folding centre armrests and footrests that are optional on the 15 SHD. Three-point seat belts are standard on every passenger seat of both models; which coaches must have them is covered in bus seat belts. Both models have dual USB chargers (type A and type C) at the seats, phone and tablet holders on the seat backs, leather comfort headrests, premium partition walls and a parquet-look floor; a double hostess seat is optional.
A kitchen unit with a refrigerator and a water heater sits behind the centre door on both models, alongside a refrigerator in the cockpit, a camera at the centre entrance and Wi-Fi infrastructure. Two electrically folding 21-inch LCD monitors at the front and in the middle are standard on the 15 SHD and optional on the 16 SHD 2+1; two fixed monitors or three folding ones are options on both. A wired guide microphone at seat 4 is standard on the 15 SHD and optional on the 16 SHD 2+1.
The sheet names a front door and a centre door, with an extra switch at the front door that opens and closes the centre door, and prints no door count or width. An illuminated Mercedes-Benz sign is standard at the front entrance and optional at the centre entrance.
Mercedes-Benz Türk’s release of 26 February 2025 names, among the changes for the 2025 model year, the new Ambassador seats as standard on the Travego 15 and the Travego 16 2+1, a 21-inch passenger information screen in place of the 19-inch one, an armrest between the rear four seats of the Travego 16 2+1, and amber in place of white for the ambient light of its service area.
Driver’s area, climate and lighting
The driver’s area is what Mercedes-Benz Türk calls the Comfort Plus cockpit with the CIS (Coach Infotainment System); the model page describes a 7-inch screen, DAB+ digital radio and Bluetooth audio streaming, and ignition by a start/stop button. The sheet lists a multifunction steering wheel in leather with Mocha oak and metal-mesh decor, wireless phone charging, USB A+C chargers for the driver and for the host or hostess, a rain and light sensor, AquaBlade wipers, a heated windscreen with an additional wiper on its upper part, a heated driver’s window, and electrically adjustable, heated and electrically folding exterior mirrors. The ISRI driver’s seat, swivelling, heated and cooled and with a height-adjustable belt, is standard; a Grammer seat is optional. A driver rest area with its own air conditioning, a shoe locker and A+C USB is standard.
Both models have dual-zone air conditioning with 39 kW of cooling, separate air conditioning for the driver’s area and for the driver rest area, electrically operated roof hatches and a timer-controlled auxiliary heater. In the release of 13 August 2018 the 15 SHD had 32 kW of cooling and the 16 SHD models 39 kW.
The headlamps, daytime running lights, fog lamps, cornering lights and the surround, ambient, corridor and reading lights are all LED and all standard. Lighting around the rear axle is standard as well; the model page says it improves the view when reversing. The model page says the cornering lights come on with the turn signal or a steering movement when the coach is below 40 km/h. The release of 13 August 2018 described Bi-xenon headlamps with washers.
Safety and assistance systems
Every safety row on the sheet is marked the same way for both models. Standard are ABS, the Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), Acceleration Slip Regulation (ASR), the electronic braking system (EBS) and Brake Assist (BAS); Lane Assist (SPA); Active Brake Assist 6 Plus (ABA 6 Plus); Traffic Sign Assist (TSA); adaptive cruise control (ACC) with a stop-and-go assistant, and conventional cruise control; Front Collision Guard (FCG); the continuous braking limiter (DBL); Predictive Powertrain Control (PPC); Frontguard Assist (FGA); Sideguard Assist 2 (SGA 2); Attention Assist (AtAs) with its camera; an eco driving assistant (EDF); the integrated water retarder; a bus-stop brake; hill-start assist; fire warning in the luggage hold and the driver rest area; an automatic fire-extinguishing system in the engine compartment; three-point belts on all passenger seats; a 360° camera system with a monitor and four exterior cameras; and a camera-system infrastructure for cameras fitted later. Optional are MirrorCam, an electrical preparation for an alcohol interlock and an alcohol interlock with the device. A footnote dates ABA 6 Plus and Attention Assist “as of March 2026” (“Mart 2026 itibariyle”), and the model page says the ABA 6+ and the attention-assist camera will be fitted from 03.2026. Where the Tourismo page names the same system, this page uses its English name; that page sets out the international facts sheet’s own descriptions.
Mercedes-Benz Türk’s release of 21 November 2024 presented the new-generation Travego and Tourismo with Active Brake Assist 6, Sideguard Assist, Traffic Sign Assist, tyre pressure monitoring, Attention Assist and a cyber-security system, under the changes to the EU General Safety Regulation (GSR). The regulatory background is in mandatory driver assistance systems. The release of 26 February 2025 adds that the new camera-system infrastructure supports owners in meeting a requirement for a recording camera system in all passenger-carrying vehicles, which it says the Turkish Highway Traffic Regulation introduced from the start of 2024.
The model page’s descriptions of these systems carry figures, all of them Mercedes-Benz Türk’s own statements. Active Brake Assist 6 Plus works over the whole speed range and can react to pedestrians and cyclists up to 60 km/h; the page’s further paragraphs, which call the system Active Brake Assist 6, add that it reacts to obstacles ahead even in typical motorway bends with a radius of more than about 260 m. The November 2024 release, describing ABA 6, gives the pedestrian-and-cyclist range as 10 to 60 km/h. The ACC radar watches up to 250 m ahead; ACC works between 15 and 100 km/h, and the stop-and-go assistant extends that to 0 to 100 km/h, moving off again by itself after stops shorter than 2 seconds. Attention Assist becomes active above 60 km/h; the model page says it warns with visual and vibration signals, the November 2024 release with visual and audible ones. Brake Assist, the page says, can shorten the braking distance from 100 km/h by up to 10 metres through a reaction-time gain of 0.4 seconds, and of tyre pressure it says that a pressure 0.5 bar too low can raise fuel consumption by up to 5%. The 360° camera shows its views on a 10-inch screen in the cockpit. MirrorCam shows the views of high-resolution cameras on two 15-inch monitors with three guide lines; the release of 26 February 2025 says it has begun to be offered as an option, to be introduced in April, and credits it with fuel savings of up to 1.5%. Front Collision Guard, the model page says, sets the driver’s compartment inside a large frame section; in a frontal collision the whole compartment, with the steering wheel, the pedals and the seat, is pushed back inside a special frame structure.
The model page also states that the body strength is designed in accordance with UN ECE-R66.02, under the heading “ECE-R 66.02 Devrilme Dayanımı” (rollover strength). What that regulation asks of a coach is in rollover strength.
